As part of the launch of the new Loihi 2 chip, built on a pre-production version of Intel’s 4 process node, the Intel Labs team behind its Neuromorphic efforts reached out for a chance to speak to Mike Davies, the Director of the project. Now it is perhaps no shock that Intel’s neuromorphic efforts have been on my radar for a number of years – as a new paradigm of computing compared to the traditional von Neumann architecture, and one that is meant to mimic brains and take advantages of such designs, if it works well then it has the potential to shake up specific areas of the industry, as well as Intel’s bottom line. Also, given that we’ve never really covered Neuromorphic computing in any serious detail here on AnandTech, it would be a great opportunity to get details on this area of research, as well as the newest hardware, direct from the source.
When cryptocurrency came into existence, not many people were well-versed in the world of virtual money. Since this decentralized system can be complicated, its concept is challenging to grasp at first. While people saw cryptocurrencies as a risk factor, their values have grown exponentially. Initially, Developers, Engineers, and Entrepreneurs were the only people interested in cryptocurrencies and invested. However, since they gained momentum, celebs have taken a keen turn to invest and grow their money. Their investments have also caused the values of different cryptocurrencies to rise and fall, making them an interesting group of decision-makers.
Some celebrities invested in cryptocurrencies long before they were introduced to popular culture. Others have just entered the investment circles. Stars such as Hugh Laurie and Ashton Kutcher have been long-time investors, while Reese Witherspoon and Tom Brady have just started. Let’s take a glimpse at which celebrities have invested in cryptocurrencies.
10 Reese Witherspoon
Reese Witherspoon was one of the latest celebs to join the world of cryptocurrency. Witherspoon, who boasts a net worth of $400 million, recently sold her media company Hello Sunshine to a Blackstone-backed venture for $900 million. She took that opportunity to invest in the cryptocurrency ETH, known as Ethereum, via her Twitter account, as stated by Hello Magazine.
Johnny Depp is one of the most famous celebrities in the world. While his spending habits are highly publicized, the actor recently added cryptocurrency to the list. In October 2018, Depp partnered with a start-up TaTuTu. This blockchain company offers tokens as rewards to users who interact on gaming and film platforms.
8 Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Former boxer Floyd Mayweather joined the cryptocurrency wave in 2017 when he began promoting Ethereum and ICOs (Initial Coin Offerings) of several companies. Ahead of his exhibition match in 2021, Mayweather urged fans to buy his non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that would give them ownership of his memorabilia via a digital platform.
7 Lionel Messi
After becoming the brand ambassador for Sirin Labs in 2017, Lionel Messi took Instagram to showcase his excitement when the brand decided to launch the first crypto smartphone in the world. The phone features applications that are built explicitly for crypto users. According to The Sun, Messi was paid in cryptocurrency after transferring to the football club, Paris-Saint Germain. His tokens paid for his welcome package and the signing fee for the two-year contract with the club.
6 Mike Tyson
One of the greatest heavyweight boxers, Mike Tyson, has made $700 million and more through his boxing matches. The star boxer has invested in Bitcoin and even produced Bitcoin ATMs with his face tattoo printed on them. The ATM system acts as a virtual wallet that is operated by Bitcoins. Tyson also has plans to invest in cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and Solana.
5 Ashton Kutcher
Ashton Kutcher is known for his intelligent investments more than his acting chops. The actor has made several investments in businesses such as Canva, Uber, and Airbnb. While Kutcher was warned against investing in crypto by his wife Mila Kunis eight years ago, the couple’s investment paid off more than either of them expected. Kutcher made his first investment in Bitcoin and now has his own start-up, Ripple. Recently, he donated $4 million to Ellen Degeneres’ wildlife fund via bitcoins.
4 Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton generated interest in cryptocurrency long before it was hot on the market. Hilton was impressed with Ethereum back in 2016 when she met the founders. She has even named her pets after NFTs and created an Instagram account focused on NFTs. Additionally, Hilton added a laser eye symbol to her Twitter account, which is a sign of solidarity in the cryptocurrency community, as noted by Coin Desk.
3 Hugh Laurie
The star of the hit medical drama House MD, Hugh Laurie, is known worldwide for his role as the witty and dry-humored Dr. Gregory House. Laurie didn’t have an interest in cryptocurrency until 2015, when a friend suggested he invest in Bitcoin. During his investment, the value had started to grow, and he invested $5000 in BTC. This investment has increased as Bitcoin skyrocketed.
2 Tom Brady
In May 2021, the most successful NFL quarterback Tom Brady took Twitter to show off his new Twitter avatar with laser eyes, showing his support to the cryptocurrency market. While the cryptocurrency market is volatile, it saw a visible drop after Brady publicly supported the currency. According to CNBC, he was called the Bitcoin bull since his announcement led to a visible investment drop.
1 Elon Musk
Elon Musk has been the biggest influencer in the world of cryptocurrency. His tweet can make or break a cryptocurrency start-up. He did the same when he tweeted ‘Dogecoin,’ sending Twitter into a frenzy, and the value of Dogecoin rose by 11,000% in the market. He did the same when he tweeted that he would exchange Bitcoins for a Tesla, and the price of Bitcoin shot upwards.
Other notable celebs include Maisie Williams, Snoop Dogg, and even Kanye West. While the risk factor in large investments is high, celebs are not afraid to lose some money to earn more. The murky future of cryptocurrencies has long disappeared, and these investments are proof that cryptocurrencies are here for the long haul.
The 60-year-old Apple CEO was revealed as the buyer of a $10.1 million mansion in an ultra-private celebrity-favorite golf resort, Dirt first reported. The deal actually closed in 2018, but confirmation that Cook was the rumored Silicon Valley buyer of the home was only recently confirmed.
According to Forbes, Cook had previously deviated from the lifestyle that many tech leaders enjoy. He had been living in a relatively modest Palo Alto condo, while his peers like Larry Ellison, Mark Zuckerberg, and Marissa Mayer all owned multiple high-priced mansions.
It’s not like he couldn’t afford a bigger house. Cook, who has been CEO of Apple in the decade following Steve Jobs' resignation due to cancer-related health issues, has managed to increase the stock price by 1,000%, making it the most valuable company in the world. For his hard work, Cook has been rewarded financially, recently received a $750 million payout, and today sits on a $1.4 billion fortune.
According to Dirt, the mansion is located in The Madison Club, which claims to be the most exclusive private residential community in La Quinta, California. The area has become primarily known for expensive homes, its highly-ranked Tom Fazio-designed course, and for its many celebrity residents. Other Madison Club homeowners include Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli, Cindy Crawford, Kourtney Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Nike founder Phil Knight, and Scooter Braun.
Finished in 2018, the five-bedroom, five-bathroom mansion spans almost 10,000 square feet. The home comes with a custom billiards table, a swim-up bar, two kitchens, and views of the 15th fairway and the Santa Rosa Mountains, according to the listing.
The New York Post claims that the home also has an office, a family lounge, a wet bar, automated floor-to-ceiling glass pocket doors, and an $86,100 active solar energy system.
Outside, Tim can enjoy his $150,000 infinity-edged swimming pool with its own swim-up bar and Baja shelf for watery sunbathing, plus a patio with a fire pit and built-in BBQ center. Air-conditioned loggias provide the perfect place for alfresco entertaining. He’ll have plenty of space to park with his 1,766-square-foot garage.
We’ve been keeping light tabs on Intel’s Neuromorphic efforts ever since it launched its first dedicated 14nm silicon for Neuromorphic Computing, called Loihi, back in early 2018. In an interview with Intel Lab’s Director Dr. Richard Uhlig back in March 2021, I asked about the development of the hardware, and when we might see a second generation. Today is that day, and the group is announcing Loihi 2, a substantial upgrade over the first generation that addresses a lot of the low-hanging fruit from the first design. What is perhaps just as interesting is the process node used: Intel is communicating that Loihi 2 is being built, in silicon today, using a pre-production version of Intel’s first EUV process node, Intel 4.
It’s been tumultuous four years for TikTok, the video-sharing social network, since launching outside of China in September 2017 and has experienced accelerating growth ever since.
The growth of the service has been nothing short of remarkable, reaching the milestone years earlier than it took Facebook and Instagram. The service is now one of the most-used and one of the fastest-growing social media platforms available.
Even more impressive is that the service has achieved the milestone a year after its fate seemed murky. On 3 August 2020, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to ban the service in the United States over supposed national security concerns if negotiations for the company to be purchased by an American company failed. A planned ban of the app on 20 September 2020 was postponed by a week and then blocked by a federal judge. President Biden revoked the ban in a new executive order in June 2021.
The company previously said it had about 55 million global users by January 2018. That number rose to more than 271 million by December 2018, 508 million by December 2019, and 689 million by July 2020.
TikTok users worldwide are busy creating trends, although sometimes dangerous, but a few are also becoming household names and monetizing the popularity they’ve found on the platform. Khabane Lame, who makes short speechless reaction videos, has gone from unemployed to amassing a fortune through brand deals. The services most popular creator, Charli D'Amelio, recently made her feature film debut with a voice role in the 2020 animated film StarDog and TurboCat and starred in the Hulu docuseries The D'Amelio Show in 2021.
TikTok may have a billion monthly users now, but it still has a way to go if it plans on seizing the social media crown. Currently, Facebook has roughly 2.89 billion monthly active users. According to Forbes, Facebook might have a reason to be concerned. It took the social media juggernaut eight years to reach 1 billion users, twice as long as it took TikTok.
Rapid advancements in flash technology and continued improvements in high-speed interfaces have driven the growth of small, bus-powered portable SSDs. Kingston introduced the DataTraveler Max in August 2021 as a USB-C flash drive capable (UFD) of hitting 1GBps speeds. Its uniqueness lies in the form-factor. In fact, it is the first device in a thumb drive form-factor to hit such performance numbers. These numbers are achieved while keeping the UFD light enough to sport an integrated USB-C male connector. Read on for our analysis of the drive's performance and a detailed look at the technology enabling this unique product.

From traveling to settling in a country, the internet has become a deciding factor when people choose a career move or make a lifestyle choice. Being the most important part of everyone’s lives, the cost of the internet differs in every country. While some regions have the cheapest rates, some countries have internet plans that are more expensive than rent. Every country offers a different broadband plan, and if compared, the service, speed, and connectivity vary in every part of the world. The average comparison in each country can be made via the average cost-per-MB or the monthly broadband package.
Countries in Europe and the Middle East offer consistently cheap internet plans, and some Asian countries have also joined the category. Some of the most beautiful places in the world offer budget internet for better connectivity to the world. Let’s take a look at the ten countries that provide cheap internet rates to their citizens.
10 Ukraine
Ukraine is one of the most liberal countries in the world in terms of Internet regulations. Over 6,000 companies are registered to provide service, while the country has 1,500 internet service providers, as stated by DW. Even the smallest of villages in the country have 15 providers. Due to the tough competition, the prices don’t go above $5 for a broadband plan.
9 Syria
The war-torn country in West Asia, Syria, has one of the most tragic stories in recent times. Even though the country’s future remains ambiguous, Syria managed to give medical access to its citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise, the internet plans for the country are not more than $6.69 for any plan.
8 Russia
While Russia remains the most dominating country globally, they took things a step further when the country decided to isolate itself from the world. Russia is building its domestic internet, which will provide the government more control over what the citizens can access from the outside world. As mentioned by BBC, they plan to have a big intranet connection like corporate organizations do for better security. Their current average plan costs around $7.50.
7 Bhutan
Tradition and connectivity live in harmony in Bhutan, a country that has a green cover of more than 75%. Yet, the country has a mobile penetration rate of 85% while an internet penetration rate of 36.9%. The country has over 205 community centers, and there is a rise in Bhutanese tech start-ups that are finding effective solutions to make the country a technologically sound destination. The internet rates of the country are $8.71 per plan.
6 Sri Lanka
While Sri Lanka has one of the cheapest internet plans in Asia, the country violates net neutrality as telecom partners offer access to applications such as WhatsApp, Instagram, LinkedIn; however, limit the high-speed usage by offering only 2G and 3G network connectivity. Sri Lankan citizens use mobile networks instead to access the internet rather than broadband connections. The country has the cheapest average rates at just $5.65 per plan.
5 Romania
Romania is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. Apart from its natural beauty, the country also offers the cheapest high-speed internet in the world. The plan starts at only $10.59 for a speed of more than 1 GBPS. This rate is five times cheaper than countries like Austria and Australia, as noted by Romania Insider.
4 Moldova
Despite being one of the under-developed countries globally, Moldova ranks third in the coverage of superfast internet in the world. Over 90% of the 3 million population of the country has access to the internet. Their plans start from around $9.95 and offer an astonishing speed of over 1 GBPS per second.
3 Vietnam
As one of the cheapest countries in the world, it is no surprise that the internet offered in the country is budget-friendly and affordable. Vietnam has the most users in the Asia-Pacific region, with over 69 million out of the 90 million population having access to the internet in this developing country. Internet usage is dominated through mobile penetration due to its $11 mobile plan rates.
2 Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan has offered some of the cheapest rates in the world with a plan of just $9.76. Over the years, the Central Asian country has observed a rise in people using social media to raise their voices against oppression. The internet penetration is high in the country, with over 76.8% of users in the country having access to the internet, as noted by Open Democracy.
1 China
China created its own internet and offered a block for sites such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and even Google. They offer their own platform for people to chat and connect to ensure data privacy and security. Due to site blocking, the internet speed in China is relatively slow, but the plans are cheap, starting at $12.26 a month.
Some of the other countries with cheap internet rates are Iran, Turkey, and Mongolia. While some countries offer no internet regulation due to the rising competition, other countries offer severe blockage from accessing websites from the West, which leads to cheaper internet rates. No matter what the reason, the users get budget-friendly access to the internet to sink information from around the world.
