The Hermès Story: How The Dumas Family Became One Of The Wealthiest Families In The World

The contemporary world consists of absolutely extraordinary wealth and huge inequality between the wealthiest billionaires and average middle-class citizens. The aggregate net worth of the world's 25 wealthiest families is $1.1 trillion. The Dumas family is the fifth wealthiest family in the world, with a total net worth of $53.1 billion. The Dumas family is well-known for their iconic Parisian mansion and enormous wealth. So let’s discover how the Dumas family became one of the wealthiest families in the world.

In 1837, Thierry Hermes founded the family business. Long before the famed scarves and Birkin bags, Hermes was a harness maker who supplied equipment to European royal households. Emile-Maurice, his grandson, updated the family company. He recruited his buddies Louis Renault and Ettore Bugatti to create automobile trunks. Additionally, Emile-Maurice broadened the business into furniture, belts, and haute couture. Jean-Louis Dumas, a descendant of Thierry Hermes, is credited with transforming Hermes into a global luxury fashion powerhouse.

Emile-Maurice has three female offspring. All of them married successfully and gave birth to three new family branches: Guerrand, Puech, and Dumas. This is why no one in the family currently bears the name Hermes. Robert Dumas, Thierry's son-in-law, proposed in the late 1930s that the company expand its racing silks into scarves and neckties; he produced a few samples himself. Something took flight. Robert Dumas took over the company from Emile-Maurice in the 1950s and managed it for three decades.

RELATED: The Richest Living Members Of Rothschild Family, Ranked By Net Worth

One of Dumas' five sons, Jean-Louis, was chosen CEO and creative director of Hermes in 1978. Jean-Louis is credited with making the company into the luxury powerhouse it is today. With the support of his cousins Patrick Guerrand and Bertrand Puech, he shook up the nearly 150-year-old family firm. He reintroduced the Kelly handbag in a range of colorful products. He developed a bag for It Girl Jane Birkin that was built to her specifications and named after her. He went on an acquisitions spree, adding Puiforcat silversmiths, Saint Louis crystal, and John Lobb shoes to the family company's inventory.

In 2004, Dumas hired Jean-Paul Gauthier—the bad boy designer to produce a women's wear line for Hermes. Dumas already had a 35% share in the French designer's namesake company. Thierry Hermès was a skilled craftsman who made harnesses and saddles for horses. His products were highly sought after, and he quickly gained a reputation for producing high-quality goods. As the demand for his products grew, he expanded his business to include other leather goods such as luggage, handbags, and belts.

Nevertheless, perhaps the most important contribution Jean-Louis made to Hermes occurred after watching Bernard Arnault's long boardroom battle with the Vuitton family in the late 1980s for control of LVMH. Dumas set two things into effect that would shield Hermes from a takeover battle from a non-family member. In 1989, he founded a business called Emile Hermes SARL to represent the family shareholders. This company is in charge of hiring managers and creating the strategy for the organization.

Finally, in 1993, Dumas put 4% of Hermes on the French stock exchange, enabling newer generations a way to liquidate while allowing the family to preserve control. The publicly traded shares of Hermes do not have any influence over the company's management. Jean-Louis Dumas was able to expand the product lines of the company to include ready-to-wear clothing for men, dinnerware, and furnishings thanks to the proceeds from the sale of shares. The revenues reached $1.9 billion in 2006, representing a fourfold increase from 1989.

RELATED: The 10 Biggest Philanthropic Foundations In The World

The expansion was seen by Bernard Arnault. In the same manner that Dior and Fendi did, he was able to seamlessly integrate Hermes into his expanding portfolio of luxury goods enterprises. In 2002, he started purchasing shares in the company. The revelation that Jean-Louis Dumas owned 17% of Hermes was made public in 2010, the same year that he passed away. A takeover appeared inevitable. It was anticipated that the Hermes family would accept the money and relinquish control of the business.

In 2011, more than 50 people descended from Thierry Hermes combined their individual holdings to form H51, which was essentially a $16 billion cooperative. The contributions accounted for 52% of the total shares in the corporation. The contributors came to an agreement that they would not sell any shares for the following 20 years. Bertrand Puech, who is now 82 years old, and his son Nicolas Puech retained their shares out of H51 but promised to give the family the right of first refusal if they ever choose to sell their interests.

The cohesive effort put out by the Hermes family members has proven to be beneficial for the business. The limit on selling shares for the next two decades gives the corporation the ability to make long-term decisions as if it were a private enterprise. Now, the company is run by Thierry Hermes's descendants, who are now in the fifth and sixth generations. Axel Dumas, a descendant of the Hermes dynasty for the sixth generation, has held the position of CEO since the beginning of 2014.

Hermes has been successful in large part because there is an ongoing need for the leather items that it produces. The starting price for a Kelly handbag is $8,450. Prices for the Birkin bag begin at $8,850. Even though they come with a hefty price tag, Hermes bags are much sought after. It is said that Victoria Beckham owns a collection of more than 100 Birkin bags that is worth more than $2 million. Today, the Dumas family remains heavily involved in the management of Hermès International S.A. The company is still known for its commitment to quality and craftsmanship and is one of the most prestigious luxury brands in the world.

As we follow the trail of his career, we'll explore the defining moments that have shaped his comedic style, his rise to fame, and the many accomplishments he's achieved along the way. Buckle up and get ready to take a wild ride as we uncover the secrets behind George Lopez's success and how he's managed to become one of the most beloved comedians and actors of our time.

Born on April 23, 1961, in Mission Hills, Los Angeles, California, to Frieda and Anastasio Lopez, a migrant worker, he grew up facing challenges that would have broken many others. However, he persevered, driven by his love for comedy and his desire to make people laugh. Despite being deserted by both his parents at an early age, he was raised by his maternal grandmother, Benita Gutierrez, a factory worker, and step-grandfather, Refugio Gutierrez, a construction worker and attended San Fernando High School, graduating in 1979, and that was where he first discovered his love for comedy.

In 1993, Lopez married Ann Serrano, and they welcomed a daughter, Mayan, in 1996. Despite their long and loving relationship, they decided to end their marriage in 2010, citing irreconcilable differences. Though he was raised Catholic, George is not religious but he does believe in God. Despite the challenges he's faced in his personal life, he has become one of the most beloved comedians and actors of our time. His hard work, dedication, and perseverance have earned him a special place in the hearts of millions.

George Lopez's journey in stand-up comedy was no laughing matter. He started at the bottom, performing at small bars and clubs, honing his craft and waiting for his big break. But despite the challenges, he never gave up. His talent, passion, and unique perspective on life slowly but surely caught the attention of fans and fellow comedians alike. Soon, he was headlining shows across the country and making a name for himself in the cutthroat world of comedy.

Lopez's comedic style was unlike anything audiences had seen before. His sharp wit and irreverent humor drew fans from all walks of life, and he quickly became known for his hilarious observations on race, family, and everyday life. His success on stage eventually led to a breakthrough on cable television, where he hosted his own comedy show on the cable network, Showtime. From there, he took to some of the biggest stages in the country, including the Just for Laughs comedy festival and the HBO Comedy Festival, cementing his status as one of the most gifted and sought-after comedians of his generation.

After he had spent several years in the stand-up comedy circuit George was approached by actress Sandra Bullock, who was equally concerned about the lack of Hispanic-oriented sitcoms on American television. Bullock was instrumental in getting a sitcom that starred Hispanics on television without exclusively being about the Hispanic-American community. The sitcom was quickly picked up by ABC, and in 2002, George Lopez became one of the few Latinos to star in a television comedy series. The show ran for six seasons before it was canceled in 2007.

In addition to his show, Lopez has appeared in several other television programs, including Inside the NFL and Reno 911! In 2013, Lopez starred in his own sitcom, Saint George, which was canceled after one season. However, in 2015, he received another straight-to-series order for Lopez, a semi-autobiographical single-camera sitcom. George has also appeared as a guest judge on America's Got Talent, where he used his golden buzzer to send a dance group called Malevo straight to the live shows. In May 2022, NBC picked up his new series, Lopez vs. Lopez, where he co-stars with his daughter Mayan.

The AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D Review: AMD's Fastest Gaming Processor

This week is the long-awaited launch of AMD's second generation of V-Cache equipped consumer chips, the Ryzen 7000X3D family. Aimed primarily at gamers, tomorrow morning AMD will be releasing a pair of their latest-generation Ryzen 7000 chips with the extra cache stacked on, including the Ryzen 9 7950X3D (16C/32T) and the Ryzen 7 7900X3D (12C/24T). Both chips build upon their Ryzen 7000X-series predecessors by adding a further 64MB of L3 cache, bringing them to an impressive total of 128 MB of L3 cache.

Meanwhile, a third SKU, the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, is in the works for April 6th. That part will offer 8 CPU cores and 96 MB of L3 cache, making it the most direct successor to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

Ultimately, all three chips will serve to update AMD's product stack by combining the strengths of the Zen 4 CPU architecture with the performance benefits of the extra L3 cache, which during the overlapping period of the last several months, has been split between the Ryzen 5000 and Ryzen 7000 families. In short, PC gamers will finally be able to have their cake and eat it too, gaining access to AMD's Zen 4 microarchitecture and its myriad of benefits (higher IPC, higher clockspeeds, DDR5, PCIe 5) with a nice helping of additional L3 cache slathered on top.

From that stack, today we're reviewing the new flagship Ryzen 9 7950X3D. The 7950X3D offers 16 Zen 4 cores spread over two CCDs (8C/16T per CCD). AMD had to elect one of the CCDs to stack the additional L3 cache onto, resulting in a new-to-AMD heterogeneous CPU design, but they do have some special sauce as a garnish to make it work. We aim to determine if the Ryzen 9 7950X3D is the chip gamers have been yearning for and how it stacks up against other Ryzen 7000 chips (and Intel's 13th Gen) in our test suite.

According to the Daily Mail, Brooklyn made $5 million in one year thanks to brand deals. He’s worked with huge brands like “Tiffany & Co, Pepe Jeans and BMW” to star in campaigns as well as promote their products online.

In the last year, Brooklyn has featured brands like Silk Nextmilk’s plant-based milk, Wendy’s fast food chain, and WESAKE, a sake brand, on his social media accounts.

Sources also told the publication that Brooklyn earns revenue through his cooking show. Brooklyn launched the show – Cookin’ with Brooklyn – in 2021, and each episode costs approximately $100,000 to make. He was initially criticized for the gig since he had no prior culinary experience.

He received backlash again in August 2022 when he said “I’m a chef” in response to a question about what he does for a living, which was posed in TikToker Daniel Mac’s “What Do You Do For A Living?” series.

“Are you, like, the best chef in the world?” the TikToker asked Brooklyn, to which he replied, “Trying to be.”

Brooklyn then proceeded to drive away in his sports car, a red McLaren P1, one of the rarest cars in the world and valued at $1.2 million. Some comments on the TikTok claimed Brooklyn would’ve never been able to afford the car if it wasn’t for his family’s wealth.

“Born into a multimillionaire family and now married a billionaire’s daughter. But he’s a chef!!” one comment read.

A different one stated, “Not him pretending being a chef got him that car… Brooklyn, please.” Another one said, “What do you do for a living?' Born to Victoria and David Beckham.”

No one can deny that Brooklyn’s recent wedding to Nicola Peltz, daughter of billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz, was a lavish event. However, the newlyweds are currently engaged in a lawsuit over their nuptials.

Nicola’s father originally sued the wedding planners to get his deposit back after they were let go weeks before the ceremony. But the wedding planners subsequently launched a countersuit, claiming breach of contract. Nicola and both of her parents are named in the lawsuit.

The Current Net Worth Of The Members Of Guns N Roses, Ranked

It was the 1980’s when big hair, leather pants, and rock n’ roll were more relevant than ever. Five high school boys, born and raised across the globe from each other, were busy drinking, getting high and playing the music in their past time. Though they all had musical backgrounds and stars like Elton John, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones to look up to, it wasn’t until the punk movement with bands like Motley Crue, Aerosmith and Bon Jovi started garnering attention that the young men who eventually formed Guns N’ Roses (GNR) could see their place on the stage.

The original band consisting of Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Steven Adler and Duff McKagan came together in the summer of 1985 for the first time and could feel the immediate chemistry. As fans know all too well, by the early 90’s the band began disassembling and more than a decade of arguing and angst ensued.

Audiences were thrilled to see in the spring of 2016, GNR had reunited in a near original line up and in the fall of 2022, the band announced a remastered deluxe box set of the “Illusion” albums.

Whether in the original band or an added bonus down the road, it’s safe to say each member has banked a nice nest egg.

9 Melissa Reese – $2 Million

Back in 2016, when band members began reassembling for some new tunes and a tour, Reese became the first female (and youngest) member of the band. According to The Things, Reese has worked with Buckethead, Brian Mantia and other musicians with her keyboarding skills. Today, she plays for GNR and has amassed a decent net worth for her talent.

8 Richard Fortus – $3.5 Million

He’s not in the original band but can still boast of being one of the longest members. The guitarist has a history of playing in bands like Love Spit Love, Thin Lizzy and The Dead Daisies but he’s been with GNR since 2002 and is considered one in the family at this point.

7 Steven Adler – $15 Million

Born Michael Coletti, Adler serves as drummer for GNR and is known for his songwriting skills. Adler may also be known for his heroin addiction that began to get in the way of his work and musical abilities. The band asked him to leave in 1990 and Adler followed up with a lawsuit, earning a $2.25 million settlement. Though he’s remained friends with Slash, according to Grunge, Adler has been performing with his band, Adler’s Appetite most recently.

6 Izzy Stradlin – $28 Million

Born as Jeffrey Dean Isbell and as one of the founding members of the band, fans would love to see Izzy back in the lineup, however, the guitarist began feeling restless under band members clashing personalities and need for control. Stradlin left the group to pursue a successful solo career in 1992 and as of late, it’s been reported he’s been in negotiations to join GNR in their current tour, but plans haven’t been ironed out.

5 Frank Ferrer – $32 Million

One of the newer drummers for GNR, Ferrer joined the band in 2006. With a history of playing with bands like The Beautiful, Psychedelic Furs and Love Spit Love, the bandmate had already made a name for himself and quite a bit of wealth before contributing to the iconic “Chinese Democracy” album.

4 Dizzy Reed – $40 Million

Other than Rose, Reed is the longest-running member of GNR, playing keyboard and contributing backup vocals. Fans can hear Reed’s tunes in classic songs like “Live and Let Die” and “November Rain” but even when GNR wasn’t getting along, he continued to play. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Reed tours with his cover band Hookers N’ Blow and was named Outstanding Keyboardist of the Year at the 2007 Rock City Awards.

3 Duff McKagan – $70 Million

We can thank Duff McKagan for the band’s launch in a variety of ways. In 1984, the bass guitarist had met Slash and Adler but caught between two bands and questioning their loyalty, McKagan lined up a list of gigs up the West Coast of California to test their commitment. As suspected, several musicians backed out and in 1985, Rose, Slash, Stradlin, McKagan and Adler rehearsed together for the first time. Shortly after, they embarked on what became known as the “Hell Tour”.

2 Slash – $90 Million

Possibly one of the most iconic musicians in history, we know Slash when we see him due to the long curly hair and top hat he wears. The London-born musician grew up in the music industry. His mother designed costumes for the likes of David Bowie, Ringo Starr and Janis Joplin. His father created album covers for Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. The lead guitarist has known Adler since high school and the bandmates traveled to L.A., eventually meeting up with Rose and McKagan to form the band. After leaving the band in 1996, Slash went on to work with Michael Jackson and others but has since reunited with his brothers.

1 Axl Rose – $200 Million

Rose is the one and only consistent band member of GNR. He and Stradlin have known each other since high school and upon meeting up with Slash, Adler and McKagan, the rest is history. The lead singer is known for his intensity according to Biography, literally full of energy just waiting to be released on stage. Perhaps what saved Rose from some of his other bandmate’s history was the fact that he never suffered from addiction and lives a somewhat reclusive lifestyle. In 2012, Rose was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 2016, he toured as front man for iconic band AC/DC but like Slash and other members of the band, always came back home and has earned a massive net worth due to his hard work.
