Donald Trump takes down video with ‘unauthorized’ ‘Dark Knight Rises’ tune
Warner Bros. Pictures officials have taken issue with a video posted by U.S. President Donald Trump which features the “unauthorized” use of Hans Zimmer’s score from The Dark Knight Rises.
The Republican leader debuted what appeared to be footage for his 2020 reelection campaign on Twitter on Tuesday, with the two-minute clip featuring images of top Democrats and supporters, including former President Barack Obama, Trump’s 2016 election rival Hillary Clinton, and comediennes Amy Schumer and Rosie O’Donnell, cut with pictures of the controversial Commander-in-Chief during his first two years in office.
The film was set to the sounds of a dramatic score, but shortly after posting the video online, movie fans were quick to point out that the music sounded strikingly similar to the soundtrack of Christopher Nolan’s 2012 Batman blockbuster, specifically the song Why Do We Fall.
Studio bosses at Warner Bros. took note and filed a copyright infringement complaint with Twitter chiefs, and released a statement declaring: “The use of Warner Bros.’ score from The Dark Knight Rises in the campaign video was unauthorized. We are working through the appropriate legal channels to have it removed.”
By late on Tuesday, the video had been taken down, with Trump’s original tweet replaced with a message explaining it was no longer available “in response to a report by the copyright owner.”
A representative for the White House has yet to comment on the news.
