Man’s mom was ‘driving him crazy’, so he killed her: Cops
The mother of a Tennessee man apparently annoyed him so much that it drove him to allegedly kill her.
Officials from the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office nabbed 51-year-old John Ralph on Saturday as he attempted to flee the United States by boarding a plane at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta that was destined for Amsterdam.
Ralph was charged with first-degree murder in relation to the death of his mother, Edith Betty Ralph.
On Saturday, Edith’s body was found by a caregiver at a home she shared with Ralph in Carter County, Tenn., according to the Johnson City Press.
Cops say there were signs of severe head trauma and multiple gunshot wounds on the woman’s body.
Prior to Edith’s death, Ralph reportedly asked co-workers to help stage photos of him bustling at work as an alibi in case “something happened to his mother.” Cops say the suspect “had already made numerous statements to friends and family that his mother was driving him crazy.”
Police then learned John had purchased an airline ticket for Amsterdam that would depart from Atlanta on Saturday night.
Sheriff Dexter Lunceford told the Johnson City Press investigators quickly notified the U.S. Marshal’s Office of John’s intentions. Officers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Marshal’s Office arrested the suspect at the airport.
The man is being held at Clayton County Jail in Georgia on $1 million bond. Plans to extradite him back to Tennessee are in the works.
