SIZE MATTERED: Penis length-obsessed man killed wife, himself says coroner
A 32-year-old man from Ipswich, England who was obsessed with the size of his small penis had stabbed his wife to death before leaping to his own demise, a court was told Wednesday.
According to the U.K. Sun, 31-year-old Katherine Kemp was stabbed 28 times in the apartment she shared with her husband, Thomas.
Thomas’ lifeless blood-soaked body was found outside the building after apparently falling 25 feet to his death.
At an inquest into the apparent murder-suicide, Suffolk county coroner Jacqueline Devonish described how Thomas had forced his way into the apartment before attacking his wife.
Devonish said Katherine was found in a “pool of blood” with “significant stab wounds to the chest,” with puncture wounds in the heart and lungs. The woman also had defensive injuries to her hands.
The Ipswich Star reported police initially responded last summer to a call about a man falling out of a window.
Cops treated Katherine’s death as murder while Thomas’ death wasn’t suspicious, they say.
During the inquest into the death of the Kemps, Dr. Michael McCullagh — the couple’s doctor — said Thomas was diagnosed with mental health issues in 2016. McCullagh said he referred the man for treatment in 2017 after he threw himself on the floor during an appointment.
Thomas reportedly told the doctor he felt it was “not worth being alive” and he started to strangle himself “with his tie.”
Chantal Eoche-Duval, a mental health worker who assessed Thomas after his breakdown, said the man told her he was self-conscious “about the size of his genitalia” and was on the “receiving end of jokes and digs about it.”
In a different assessment in 2018, psychiatric nurse Julie Murphy told court Thomas had confessed to having sex with escorts and feeling guilty about it.
“He went on to say he had told his wife about his use of escorts,” said Murphy, as reported by the Sun.
Murphy said Thomas appeared to be suffering from high levels of anxiety and he feared his marriage would unravel if Katherine found out about the escorts. Murphy also confirmed that Thomas had become concerned about his penis size, something he was worried about since he was a teenager.
The killer reportedly told Murphy he had sewn a sock between two pairs of underwear to wear as “a piece” in order to make his genitals look bigger when he was younger.
The inquest continues and is expected to last between four and eight days, according to the Ipswich Star.
