Robin To Appear in Matt Reeves' Batman Franchise [Rumor]

Matt Reeves is being tasked with rebuilding the Batman movie franchise following the poorly received Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League films.

Ben Affleck portrayed the Caped Crusader in both films, which were directed by Zack Snyder. The latter had to step away from Justice League after the tragic passing of his daughter, Autumn. Joss Whedon took over for Snyder for the remainder of production, but Reeves was ultimately hired to direct The Batman, slated for a 2021 release.

Robert Pattinson was announced as Affleck's replacement as Batman, with the latter stepping away from the franchise. But so far, only Pattinson is the only person confirmed cast member for the upcoming film.

Fans of the DC Universe may be holding out hope that we'll witness the arrival of Robin/Dick Grayson in the film. Well, Mark Hughes of Forbes has "heard" that the Grayson character "is expected to make an appearance in one of the Reeves movies."

Hughes added that Grayson's appearance will likely come "in the form of an origin story." It's not clear at this time if this will be the main storyline of a film, or if it will simply be "a subplot."

Although Robin didn't appear as the comic book hero in the Christopher Nolan trilogy, he was introduced at the conclusion of The Dark Knight Rises. Joseph Gordon Levitt's character, police officer John Blake, takes over the Batcave. It was also revealed at the end that "Robin" was his actual first name.

Robin (the Dick Grayson version) was portrayed by Chris O'Donnell in Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. In the former, he was taken up by Bruce Wayne after Two-Face murders his parents and brother. He then joins forces with Batman over the next two films.

It's been almost a quarter-century since Robin last appeared on a live action Batman film. Hopefully, Reeves finds a way to make it happen as he tries to help the franchise bounce back.
