This Couple Creates & Sells Gin Infused With Elephant Dung
Gin has been infused with any manner of weird and wonderful things in recent years, but coupling it with elephant dung might be the weirdest combo we have seen to date.
Spirits tend to have a pretty intense flavor. A flavor so strong that many people don't enjoy it. It's why only the most hardened drinkers consume them as God intended. That being without a mixer or any added flavors. Suggest a vanilla rum with Diet Coke to certain people and they'll slap you right across the face.
The spirit that always seems to be mixed or infused with another flavor is gin. There aren't many people who drink gin straight and if you do, what's wrong with you? Treat yourself to some raspberry gin or at least add a splash of tonic. Or, you know, grab a bottle that has been carefully infused with elephant dung.

No, you did not read that incorrectly. Paula and Les Ansley of South Africa came up with the idea and sell the concoction for around $35 a bottle, reports The Evening Standard. The pair came up with the wacky idea while on safari in Kenya and named it Ibhu Indlovu gin. Their guide on the safari told them that despite the massive amounts of food elephants eat every day, 80% of it goes undigested.
That means of the 130kg of dung the average elephant produces every day, most of it is packed with nutrients and is simply undigested fruit, grass, and leaves. The Ansleys asked the safari park to send them some dung, to which the park obliged, and work on the gin could then begin. They dry, wash, and crumble the dung until only the remains of the fruits and flowers are left.
From there, what's left over goes through a sterilizing process and is then distilled with the gin. The couple admitted that they asked friends to try the gin without telling them what it had been through. That way, they got an honest answer about the taste as no one knew it had been infused with poop. Apparently, it has an earthy taste, which is unsurprising, and is so popular that the couple now makes literally thousands of bottles.
