Dallas Cowboys Are Parting Ways With Head Coach Jason Garrett [Rumor]
Following a series of meetings, Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett will not be retained by owner Jerry Jones and his son Stephen Stones for the 2019 season.
On Thursday evening, ESPN's Ed Werder reported that the Cowboys are "expected" to decide that the 53-year-old Garrett won't be "part of the organization," any longer. The team will now proceed to conduct interviews for a new head coach.
Garrett, who was a backup to Troy Aikman during the '90s dynasty days in Dallas, took over as head coach for the fired Wade Phillips in 2010. Garrett's seat appeared to be hot every single year, but he wound up lasting in Dallas for nine and a half seasons.
Though the Cowboys recorded only one losing season under Garrett (2015), the franchise only made the playoffs three times under his watch - and they only recorded two playoff wins. Dallas never reached the NFC Championship Game with Garrett despite being loaded with star-studded teams.
The Cowboys unraveled after promising 3-0 and 5-3 starts on the season. They dropped four of five games between Weeks 10 and 14, and Dallas lost an essential must-win game against the eventual NFC East Champion Philadelphia Eagles in Week 16.

The Cowboys are the richest franchise in the NFL. Forbes valued then at $5.5 billion in September, with the New England Patriots a distant second at $4.1 billion. But the organization has been mired in mediocrity for most of the 21st century, and a coaching change was inevitable in the offseason.
Dallas now has to prepare to pay up two premier superstars, including quarterback Dak Prescott -- who will easily land a deal worth more than $100 million. Pro Bowl wideout Amari Cooper and standout corner Byron Jones are also free agents, but Dallas will likely have to let one of them walk in free agency.
There is no shortage of intriguing coaching candidates for Jones and the Cowboys. Urban Meyer, Lincoln Riley, Mike McCarthy, Josh McDaniels and Greg Roman are among the many big-named options that could be available.
