2020 World Series Odds Shift Dramatically After Dodgers-Red Sox Blockbuster

The Los Angeles Dodgers have spent the better part of the past decade as a primary World Series favorites, but the 2021 Fall Classic is truly theirs to lose.

One year after finishing with a franchise-best 106 wins, the Dodgers should be a much better team entering 2020. On Tuesday night, they acquired 2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts and 2012 AL Cy Young winner David Price in a massive blockbuster with the Boston Red Sox.

Betts posted a WAR of 6.8 in 2019, while Price had a respectable WAR of 1.8 despite being limited to 22 starts. If those two play at their usual levels, the Dodgers could very well surpass the 106-win total they recorded last year.

After adding the two multi-time All-Star selections to their roster, the Dodgers saw their World Series odds skyrocket big time in 2020. Caesars (via Rob Goldberg of Bleacher Report) gives the Dodgers 4-1 odds of winning it all in 2020, while the powerhouse New York Yankees are listed at 7-2.

The defending champion Washington Nationals are considerably behind the Yankees and Dodgers with 18-1 odds, while the Houston Astros (last year's AL champions) are listed at 10-1.

The Dodgers reached the World Series in 2017 and 2018, but they wound up losing to the Astros and Red Sox, respectively. However, MLB concluded that Houston stole signs in the 2017 season and during the World Series, and the league is still investigating the Red Sox for allegedly performing the same violations.

Though the Dodgers and their fans may feel as though they got cheated out of a championship, the team now has a prime chance to finally end their 32-year title drought. Adding Betts and Price to arguably the deepest roster in baseball makes the Dodgers the team to beat.

Of course, the Nationals, Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers will have plenty to say. The Dodgers' 2020 NL pennant is far from a guarantee, but they're unquestionably the most talented group on paper.
