Derek Jeter's First Yankees Jersey Sells For $369,000 At Auction

A lucky buyer is coming away with a special piece of baseball history.

Derek Jeter's first ever game-worn jersey (on May 29, 1995) sold on a Goldin Auctions listing for the hefty price tag of $369,000. There were 19 total bids for Jeter's uniform, which included his own signature plus a letter of authenticity.

According to Allen Kim of CNN, this set the record for the "most expensive modern-era jersey ever sold."

Jeter's debut game took place in a road game at the Kingdome against the Seattle Mariners. The Yankees lost 8-7 to the home team in extra innings, as Jeter went 0-for-5 at the plate.

Certainly, nobody at the time could have expected that Jeter was wearing a jersey with a value of six figures. But what followed after May 29, 1995 was one of the most decorated and accomplished careers in the history of professional baseball.

Jeter only appeared in 15 games during the 1995 campaign, but he was a household name by the conclusion of the 1996 season, having won the American League Rookie of the Year award while leading the Yankees to the World Series.

Jeter would go on to win five World Series championships during his illustrious tenure with the Yankees (also in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2009). The 14-time All-Star also won five Gold Glove Awards and as many Silver Slugger Awards.

Part of the legendary 3,000-hit club (3,465 total hits), Jeter finished with 260 home runs, a .310 batting average and a career OPS of .817. He is the Yankees all-time franchise leader in hits, plate appearances, games played, doubles and hits. Jeter fell just one vote short of being a unanimous Hall of Fame selection in 2020.

Jeter is now part of the Miami Marlins ownership group, as he tries to save a longtime losing franchise the same way he brought the Yankees to a new era of historic dominance for nearly two full decades, all while his memorabilia continues to sell at insanely high prices.
