Don't Let "Bad" Box Office Numbers Stop You From Going To See Birds Of Prey

Birds Of Prey is being slammed for the sub-par figures it has drawn during its opening weekend, but don't let that stop you from seeing what is a terrific movie.

Superhero movies are the order of the day and have been for a few years now. We are almost at a point where it feels as if a superhero movie is considered a failure if it doesn't make at least $1 billion at the box office. The thing is, not all superhero movies are created equal, something that seems to have been lost on a lot of the genre's fans recently.

Harley Quinn's latest outing onto the big screen Birds Of Prey hit theaters this weekend and is being slammed for what have been deemed poor box office numbers. It made $33.3 million in ticket sales in the US during its opening weekend. There's no getting around it, that's a low number, the lowest of any DCEU movie so far. However, there are various reasons why that isn't as big a disaster as many are making it out to be.

The biggest reason of all not to panic is when the rest of the world's Birds Of Prey is added to the total for the US. $80 million so far, and since the movie worked to an $84.5 million budget, we can't imagine the studio is as panicked as some of the sites who have written about it over the weekend. It's February release date is also a big factor.

Birds Of Prey had the 14th highest-grossing February opening weekend for an R-Rated movie of all time. Which brings us onto our next point, the rating. Deadpool and Joker might have bucked the trend somewhat when it comes to R-Rated superhero movies, but at the end of the day, the rating still eliminates a massive part of society (families and children) from going to see it.

Above all else, the main reason people should ignore the negative press surrounding Birds Of Prey being a supposed box office flop is that it is a terrific movie. Margot Robbie does a fantastic job portraying Harley Quinn for the second time, and it repairs a lot of the damage done by Suicide Squad a few years ago. It's a shame that fewer people will see this in theaters than saw Aquaman and Justice League, as this is a far better chapter in the DCEU.
