Movie On Kurt Warner's Storied Football Career Is Coming To Hollywood

Kurt Warner had a unique journey to the NFL and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and Hollywood is going to show you how it all played out.

Per Dave McNary of Variety, Lionsgate will develop a movie on Warner, the undrafted product who emerged as a Super Bowl champion and two-time MVP for the St. Louis Rams.

American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story will hit theaters on Dec. 18. Brothers Andrew and Jon Erwin are serving as the directors, with Warner and wife Brenda on staff as the producers, per McNary.

The report from Variety also noted that it'll be based upon interviews with the legendary quarterback, plus his book, All Things Possible: My Story of Faith, Football, and the First Miracle Season.

The vast majority of the NFL's best quarterbacks had success in college, before being drafted into the league. But Warner didn't hear his name called at the NFL draft when he finished playing college football for Northern Iowa.

Warner joined the Green Bay Packers for a tryout in 1994, but he never landed a contract with the team. Warner then worked in a grocery store before heading to the Arena Football League.

Warner became a star for the Iowa Barnstormers, earning first-team All-Arena selections in the 1996 and '97 seasons. After a short stint with the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe, Warner finally got his big break when the St. Louis Rams brought him aboard in 1998. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Warner won the NFL MVP award in his first season as the starter, and he led the Rams to a Super Bowl XXXIV championship, the first in franchise history). Warner won a second MVP award in 2001, though the Rams fell to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVI.

Injuries cut his tenure in St. Louis short, and Warner joined the New York Giants in 2004 before landing with the longtime struggling Arizona Cardinals. He led them to a Super Bowl XLIII appearance against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but they fell 27-23.
