A Pipe Malfunction Led To The Residents Of This Italian Town's Water Turning Into Wine

For three hours last Wednesday, the water flowing from residents taps in an Italian town was replaced with red wine.
Chances are a lot of people reading this will have wished for a time when the water which flows out of their taps was replaced with something a little stronger. Whether that something is coffee, beer, wine, or even hot chocolate. For a few lucky residents of the Italian town of Castelvetro, that dream became a reality.
People in 20 different homes went to get themselves some water on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, only to find red wine flowing from their faucets. Honestly, as problems go, this is one we would really like to have. Then again, the problem causing the wine to flow from their taps would have also meant bathing and showering in the stuff.
So what caused this to happen? Well, the Cantina Settecani winery suffered a major malfunction according to CNN Travel. More specifically, a faulty valve in the washing circuit on the bottling line. That resulted in its Lambrusco Grasparossa seeping into the water lines due to the pressure and thus showed up in some people's bathtubs and sinks.
Some of the residents unexpectedly receiving the wine called Cantina Settecani to let them know what was happening. Others even admitted to bottling it while the getting was good. The malfunction lasted three hours so if someone realized what was happening very early on, they could have bottled themselves quite a bit of wine by the time the problem was fixed.
Since Castelvetro is a town in Northern Italy, it has been greatly affected by the coronavirus outbreak. It relies on tourism and since the outbreak, the industry has dropped by 80%. Wine pouring from the town's faucets, and the publicity that has come along with it, has been a welcome distraction from the other issues going on in the town right now. Hopefully, once the coronavirus outbreak has been quelled, people will remember Castelvetro for its wine mishap and pay it a visit.
