Xavier Rhodes' One-Year Deal With Colts Is Worth Around $5 Million
After being released by the Minnesota Vikings, Xavier Rhodes didn't have to wait long to find a new home.
The three-time Pro Bowler signed a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts, and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that the deal is worth close to $5 million.
Coming off a frustrating season with the Vikings, and with most of the top free agents already signed, Rhodes was unlikely to receive much more than that. He gets the opportunity to reset his market for next year.
And if Rhodes can play like a Pro Bowler again, he could very well receive a multi-year deal in 2021. Sometimes, a fresh start is all a player needs.
July will mark three years since the Vikings gave Rhodes a five-year contract extension worth $70 million. Once a cornerstone player in their secondary, Rhodes struggled significantly in 2019, and the Minnesota defense has continued to take several steps back since their run to the 2017 NFC Championship Game.

Rhodes wasn't the only standout on Minnesota's defense that the team parted ways with this offseason. Pass rushing stud Everson Griffen and two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Linval Joseph were released. The Vikings also decided not to retain Trae Waynes, who signed with the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Colts have been one of the busiest teams this offseason. Before signing Rhodes, they landed Pro Bowl quarterback Philip Rivers on a one-year deal worth $25 million. They also traded for San Francisco 49ers pass rushing star DeForest Buckner, surrendering their 2020 first-round pick in the deal.
After reaching the postseason in 2018, the Colts regressed and finish a disappointing 7-9 in the AFC South. Losing star quarterback Andrew Luck to retirement in August was a big blow to their championship hopes. But with Rivers and a revamped defense leading the way, the Colts can expect to compete for a postseason spot again, and they could very well reemerge as a title contender.
