How To Watch Detective Pikachu, The Wire, And 100s Of Hours Of Other Content On HBO For Free Right Now

HBO is offering up 100s of hours of content for free and without a subscription right now to help people make it through self-isolation.

As millions of us are cooped up around the world with no clue on when life might go back to normal, we are looking for anything and everything to entertain us. Box sets we've been meaning to get to, movies we missed at the theater, books that passed us by. If there's content out there to be consumed then chances are people are going to be consuming it in the coming weeks and months.

That means now is the perfect time for streaming services chasing Netflix's to tail to try and gain some ground. Disney+ has done that in a major way but in fairness, considering the content it has to flaunt, it probably would have done that with or without a global pandemic.

HBO, on the other hand, which launches its own streaming service HBO Max later this year needs to seize this opportunity. This week, it announced that it would be doing that in a major way. Right now, whether subscribed to HBO or not, people can enjoy 100s of hours of its content absolutely free. The Wire, The Sopranos, Detective Pikachu, and Crazy, Stupid, Love are just a few of the movies and TV shows available.

Polygon reports that all people need to do to take advantage of this free content is head to HBONOW.com or HBOGO.com. Not only is it free, but there isn't even any need to subscribe to anything. The only caveat is the sites can only be accessed in the United States. Anyone outside of America who wants to check out Detective Pikachu will, unfortunately, have to pay elsewhere.

As for how long people will have to watch all this content for free, that information has not been disclosed. HBO simply revealed it will be here for "a limited time". If we're lucky, it will be available all the way up until the launch of HBO Max which is due to arrive in May. Although its very kind of HBO to offer up all this content for free, the ploy is that people will enjoy it so much the sign up for HBO Max when it launches next month.
