NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Is Forgoing His Salary

All major sporting leagues across North America are on hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, and countless executives and staff members are either forgoing their salaries or taking paycuts.

You can add NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to that list.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Goodell decided to forego his salary, which went into affect earlier in April.

Goodell, who has served as the NFL commissioner since 2006, is in the midst of a deal that reportedly pays him around $40 million annually. He signed a $200 million extension back in 2017.

The NFL had to implement drastic changes to its offseason plans. This year's draft -  initially scheduled to take place in Paradise, Nevada - was done in a "virtual" format. Goodell announced all of the draft selections from his home in Bronxville, NEw York.

Two weeks ago, the NFL and NFLPA reached an agreement on a virtual offseason program, with all team facilities currently closed. The league was planning to release the 2020 season schedule on May 9, but that might end up getting delayed.

The NFL hasn't made any final decisions in regards to the the start to the 2020 regular season. Right now, it's hard to imagine that that fans will be allowed in stadiums by September.

The 2019-20 NHL and NBA seasons are currently on pause, and both leagues continue to monitor the situation. Neither league has given any hints on when they'll make a final decision. The 2020 MLB season was set to begin on March 26, but that has since been delayed. The league is still looking at several options in hopes of salvaging a 100-plus game campaign plus the postseason.

Right now, the 2020 NFL season is scheduled to take place on Thurs, Sept. 2020. League tradition would see the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs host the Kickoff Game, though the league hasn't confirmed this. Current plans call for Super Bowl LV to take place on Feb. in Tampa Bay, although that could very well change.
