Patrick Mahomes Moves Ahead Of Tom Brady In NFL Merchandise Sales

Tom Brady spent almost a decade as the face of the NFL, but it's safe to argue that Patrick Mahomes has taken that title from him.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is coming off his first Super Bowl championship season, one year after winning the league MVP award. While Brady begins a new chapter with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Mahomes is beginning to take over as the new face of the league.
According to Scott Soshnick of Variety, Mahomes moved ahead of Brady and sits atop the lead in NFL player merchandise sales, spanning from March 2019 to this past February. Per Soshnick, this" includes sales of all officially licensed player-identified merchandise, including jerseys, trading cards, wall decals, T-shirt and bobbleheads."
Brady, the leader for three years, moved down to second on the list. Baltimore Ravens quarterback and 2019 MVP Lamar Jackson (third), Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott (fourth) and Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield (fifth) round out the top five.
Though the top five consisted of four young superstars, the rest of the top 10 was dominated by veteran players. Aaron Rodgers (sixth), Odell Beckham Jr. (seventh), Khalil Mack (eighth) and Jimmy Garoppolo (ninth) followed Mayfield, with young San Francisco 49ers star tight end George Kittle claiming the 10th spot.

Last week, Fanatics reported that Brady was the top-selling athlete in jersey sales. His new Buccaneers club was also first in team jersey sales. So it's safe to say that Brady's decision to leave Foxborough didn't affect his nationwide popularity much.
But Brady's long-term run as the face of the NFL appears to be done with now. Mahomes has established himself as the best player in the NFL, and his popularity has skyrocketed over these last two years.
Mahomes and the Chiefs are in excellent position to compete for more championships down the road, too. For all we know, Super Bowl LIV was only the beginning of the NFL's next dynasty. Stay tuned.
