Possible Spoilers For "The Batman" Movie Plot Revealed

The Batman is one of the most highly-anticipated films of 2021, and rightfully so.

Director Matt Reeves quickly assembled a star-studded cast, looking to breathe new life into the DC Universe following two lackluster Dark Knight films - Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

Reeves filmed 25 percent of The Batman before production was shut down amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The movie is currently slated for an Oct. 1, 2021 release, although that could always change. It was initially set to hit theaters in June of next year.

Though the main cast has been set for a while now, there weren't many details about the plot and premises of The Batman. We may finally have some information on that front.

According to a report from Fandom Wire, Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne/Batman will be "younger" than Christian Bale's version. The Caped Crusader will also be in his "second year of" action.

The Riddler - portrayed by Paul Dano - will be the primary villain in the film. Here are some of the reported details:

"It’s election year in Gotham, and someone is killing off Mayoral candidates one by one, leaving riddles behind each murder...

While many have assumed or hoped that the film is Batman vs a Rogues gallery of villains a la The Long Halloween, this is not the case. While they do borrow some themes from that story, they take several departures from it. In fact, The Riddler is the main villain we follow in this story, with The Batman on a mission to find out who this rogue is."

Interestingly, the Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot - portrayed by Colin Farrell - is "written as a good guy." Cobblepot, a personal rival of Bruce Wayne's in many depictions, is one of the candidates who's trying to evade being murdered.

Catwoman/Selina Kyle -played by Zoë Kravitz - will once again display signs of both good and bad. Fandom Wire's report says she'll be an "anti-hero," who assists the World's Greatest Detective. This would follow the footsteps of Michelle Pfeiffer and Anne Hathaway, who played Catwoman/Kyle in Batman Returns and The Dark Knight Rises, respectively.

It'll certainly be interesting if the Riddler is used as the primary villain in The Batman, because it's never happened before. Jim Carrey is the only other actor to portray the character in a live action film (Batman Forever). Carrey's version was the secondary villain behind Two-Face, played by Tommy Lee Jones.
