Tom Hardy Posts And Deletes Photo Teasing Venom x Spider-Man Crossover

For the second time, Tom Hardy posted something on social media teasing fans that Spider-Man will appear in the next Venom movie.

In 2019, the Spider-Man cinematic situation became a little confusing. Spidey has been appearing in the MCU over the course of the past few years, becoming a bonafide Avenger in the process. That's despite Disney not owning the movie rights to the web-slinger. It came to an agreement with Sony, who does own Spidey's cinematic rights, so that could happen, but last year, that agreement came to an end.

After a few weeks of Marvel fans tearing their hair out, Disney and Sony settled their differences. Although only loosely confirmed, it would seem part of that agreement will involve Spider-Man showing up in Sony's Marvel universe. The most logical place for that to happen would be alongside or opposite of Venom.

Tom Hardy, who portrayed Venom in the 2018 movie and will do again in next year's sequel, teased a crossover last year. He did so by posting a photo of himself in a Spider-Man mask. This week, Hardy posted an even bigger teaser on Instagram and then quickly deleted the photo. It shows a pretty grotesque close-up of Venom devouring Spider-Man, suggesting that if there is a crossover, they will be at odds.

As for the loose confirmation that Tom Holland's Spider-Man will one day show up in the Sony universe, that came via the Morbius trailer. Sony's next Marvel movie was supposed to be released this summer but has been delayed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. In the background of its trailer is a Spider-Man poster with "Murderer" scrawled across it. That is presumably a reference to the end credit scene of the MCU's Spider-Man: Far From Home.

On top of that, the original director of the first Venom admitted that everything Sony is doing in its own Marvel universe is leading to some sort of Spider-Man crossover. Since the MCU's Dr. Strange sequel is rumored to introduce a multiverse, it would make sense that the crossovers would happen around the release of that movie, if they are indeed going to happen at all.
