John Wick 4 Has Been Delayed A Full Year | TheRichest.com

John Wick fans will now have to wait until the summer of 2022 to find out what's next for everyone's favorite assassin.

The first major movie to have its theatrical release date delayed was No Time To Die, the new Bond movie that should have been in theaters by now. The lengthy delay, it is now scheduled to hit theaters this November, might well have been viewed as extreme by some. Most notably Warner Bros. who decided to only push Wonder Woman 1984's release date back as far as August.

Since then, other titles have had their release dates pushed back much further than six months. Many have opted to go the full year, switching release dates to the same date the following year. The MCU has kept its original schedule but just moved every movie up one. So Black Widow has The Eternals release date, Eternals now occupies Shang Chi's, and so on.

Chances are the summer of 2021 is going to be a crowded one. In fact, up until this past weekend, there was a day in May where Keanu Reeves was gearing up for two major releases. John Wick: Chapter 4, and The Matrix 4. Reeves fans will have been gearing up for the ultimate double feature, but unfortunately, a report from The Hollywood Reporter will have burst their bubble.

John Wick 4's release date is the latest in a long line to have received the full-year delay treatment. Lionsgate will now release the franchise's fourth chapter on May 27, 2022, rather than May 21, 2021. That leaves May 21 free for The Matrix 4 without any major competition, at least up until this point. As more release dates move around, that is subject to change.

Chances are that day well and truly belongs to The Matrix now, though. It might also be a relief for Reeves. The much-loved actor would have quite the stacked schedule in terms of premieres and media if two movies in which he is the leading role were to be released on the same day. That's the kind of schedule only suited to someone like The Rock who appears to have more hours in the day than anyone else.
