MLB's Plan For 2020 Season Includes Significant Salary Cuts, $200 Million In Postseason Bonuses

The MLB and MLBPA continue to race against time as they try to figure out a logical plan to salvage the 2020 season.

On Tuesday, it was reported by Jesse Rogers and Jeff Passan of ESPN.com that the players' union balked at the league's new economic proposal. The plan would see a giant cut in player salaries for the 2020 season.

The latest proposal, according to Passan and Rogers, would see an 82-game season commence "in early July" following three weeks of spring training play.

The report also outlined that MLB's proposal including a whopping $200 million in postseason bonuses. There would be $25 million awarded for the division series, $50 million for the ALCS/NLCS and $125 million for the World Series.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network outlined the league's proposed pay scale:

The 2020 season was set to begin on March 26, with all 30 teams in action that day. The regular season was scheduled to conclude on Sept. 27, with the playoffs beginning two days later.

Game 7 of the World Series, if necessary, would have taken place on Oct. 28.

The top four seeds in each conference will get first-round byes, with the other 16 playoff teams taking part in a best-of-five qualifying round series to determine who will go to the round of 16. Commissioner Gary Bettman wasn't able to provide any specific dates on a resumption of play.

The NBA was the first major professional sports league in North America to suspend their season. The league remains optimistic about finishing out the season, but those plans haven't been finalized.
