Amazon Prime's The Boys Finally Has A Season 2 Release Date

Amazon Prime has finally revealed when the first three episodes of The Boys season two will drop, and when the rest of the season will follow.

When it comes to success and even dominance in the video streaming world, a service's originals have a big role to play. It's one of the main reasons Netflix has become the behemoth that it is today. It's also why Disney+ had the clout to step in as an immediate number two behind Netflix since it has a pool of original content stemming from as far back as the 1930s to pull from.

It is also one of the reasons why Amazon Prime isn't quite as successful as its bosses hoped it might become. That being said, Prime has offered up the occasional hit. The likes of Good Omens and The Man In The High Castle are definitely worth a look. However, perhaps the best Prime original to date has been The Boys.

The first and so far only season of the show offers up a look at how superheroes would probably be treated and used if they really existed. Money-making machines with a PR company behind them, covering up their wrongdoings and always presenting them in a positive light. No spoilers here, but the first season ended on such a cliffhanger that almost everyone who watched it has been left on the edge of their seat ever since.

Well, everyone still on the edge of their seats for almost a whole year now knows when they'll be able to relax. Patton Oswalt, who will join the show as a guest star in season two, revealed the news via live stream over the weekend. The first three episodes of the new season will drop on September 4, 2020. A new episode will drop every Friday after that until the finale on October 9, 2020.

Prime's release schedule for the new season is an interesting one. Netflix tends to drop all episodes of a new series at once to appease the binge-watchers, while Disney+ has committed to releasing new seasons one episode at a time. By giving viewers three new episodes right off the bat, and the rest weekly, Prime will cater to both binge-watchers and those who like to string out their shows.
