NFL Expects To Start Training Camp As Scheduled On July 28

The NFL was forced to make several adjustments due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but they're still on track to proceed with the 2020 season as initially scheduled.

According to NFL.com, the league has informed the 32 teams that they expect training camps "to begin as scheduled July 28 with rookies and selected players permitted to report earlier." This message was relayed by Jeff pash, who serves as the league executive vice president and general counsel.

Although training camp could start on time, the NFL has already had to makesignificant changes to the offseason schedule. The 2020 Hall of Fame Game between the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers - scheduled for Aug. 6 - was canceled.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the NFL was looking at reducing the preseason schedule from four games to two. The hasn't made a final decision on that front yet. Week 1 of the preseason is currently scheduled to run from Aug. 13 to 16, with the final week running on Sept. 3.

In the early stages of the offseason, the league and players agreed to conduct virtual OTAs. This year's draft was scheduled to take place in Paradise, Nevada, but it was moved into a virtual format.

Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the picks in the basement of his home. In order to enhance the fan broadcast, the televised event featured cheering fans for teams when it was their turn to pick.

The 2020 NFL regular season is scheduled to begin on Sept. 10, with the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Houston Texans. The postseason - which is expanding from 12 to 14 teams - is set to begin on Jan. 9 Super Bowl LV is scheduled for Feb. 7 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida.

The league will reportedly allow all 32 teams to decide how many fans they want in their stadiums - or if they'd rather play without any spectators at all.
