Actress Kelly Preston, John Travolta’s Wife, Dies At 57
Kelly Preston, 57, has succumbed to breast cancer after a two-year battle with the disease. The actress, also known for being John Travolta’s wife, died Sunday. The actor posted a heartfelt message on Instagram.
Few knew Preston was battling breast cancer. Her representative told People magazine that the actress wanted to keep her diagnosis private. He added that she was “a bright, beautiful and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched.”
Preston was best known for her roles in Jerry Maguire, SpaceCamp, Twins, Jack Frost, For Love of the Game, View From the Top and The Cat in the Hat. She also co-starred with her husband in several films, including The Experts, Battlefield Earth and Old Dogs. She appeared with Travolta in the film Gotti in which she played the mob boss’ wife, Victoria Gotti. In addition, she was a spokeswoman for Neutrogena, appearing in print and television ads.
Her final film is the forthcoming Off the Rails, a comedy with Judi Dench and Franco Nero. Preston and Travolta met while filming The Experts and were married for 29 years. They share three children, including daughter Ella, 20; son Benjamin, 9; and son Jett, who tragically died in 2009 at the age of 16 while on a Christmas vacation in the Bahamas as a result of a seizure. He had suffered from Kawasaki disease as an infant and had a history of seizures.
Preston, who was born on October 13, 1962 in Honolulu, Hawaii, studied acting at the University of Southern California before acting in 1980s series like Hawaii Five-O, Quincy M.E. and CHiPs. She became a regular on For Love and Honor, which lasted for one season, before making her film debut in the 1985 film Mischief.
She was married to actor Kevin Gage from 1985 until they divorced in 1987. She also had a relationship with George Clooney and was engaged to Charlie Sheen in 1990. That relationship ended after he reportedly shot her in the arm, though the actress denied the incident in 2011. Like her husband, Preston was a practicing Scientologist.
