Black Widow Will Set The Scene For Scarlett Johansson's Permanent Replacement
Black Widow will be Natasha Romanov's final appearance in the MCU and will introduce her replacement, Yelena.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a constant for a lot of people over the course of the last ten years. Then Avengers: Endgame happened. The perfect culmination of more than 20 movies that brought Phase Three of the MCU to an end, but not the MCU as a whole, not by a long shot. However, the epic franchise did take an extended break after the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Thanks to the COVID-19 outbreak, that hiatus has lasted longer than expected. Marvel fans were supposed to have been shown Black Widow by now. However, its release had to be pushed back to November. In turn, November was meant new heroes The Eternals time to shine. That release has also been moved, creating a sort-of MCU release date domino effect.
Pandemic or not, by the time we arrive at a fifth Avengers movie, the franchise will look a lot different. As was made evident by what happened in Endgame, a few of our heroes will not be returning. Aside from her upcoming prequel, Black Widow will be one of those heroes. However, as was expected and has now been confirmed, Black Widow will serve as the entry point for Natasha Romanov's replacement, Yelena.
Yelena will be played by Florence Pugh in the upcoming MCU movie. The writer of the movie Cate Shortland revealed to Empire Online that Yelena will indeed be sticking around and filling the void left by Scarlett Johansson's character, but that wasn't always the plan. "We didn’t know how great Florence Pugh would be. We knew she would be great, but we didn’t know how great," Shortland admits.
Black Widow isn't the only Avenger getting repaced. Falcon is set to become the new Captain America, Natalie Portman will transform into Female Thor in Thor Love and Thunder, the She-Hulk Disney+ series is self-explanatory, and rumor has it Iron Man will be replaced in a similar fashion. Like we said, by the next Avengers movie, the heroic group will look very different.
