LeSean McCoy Signs One-Year Deal With Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After acquiring two perennial Pro Bowlers in the early stages of the 2020 offseason, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers managed to add a third to their rapidly improving roster.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Buccaneers signed veteran running back LeSean McCoy a one-year contract. It's a veteran's minimum deal that will pay him slightly over $1 million, per Rapoport.

McCoy spent the 2019 season with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he won his first Super Bowl championship ring.

The 32-year-old McCoy joins a Tampa Bay team that signed six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady to a two-year, $50 million contract. He wasn't the only New England Patriot legend to arrive in Tampa, however.

One month later, former superstar tight end Rob Gronkowski came out of retirement and orchestrated a trade to the Buccaneers, reuniting with his teammate of nine years.

A six-time Pro Bowler, McCoy has enjoyed a remarkable career that could very well place him in the Hall of Fame. He has six 1,000-yard rushing seasons on his resume, and McCoy won the rushing title in 2013 with 1,607 yards.

For his career, McCoy has 11,071 rushing yards and 73 touchdowns. He sits 22nd all time in career rushing yards, but McCoy needs just 1,049 more to move into the top 15; Franco Harris holds the 15th spot with 12,120 yards.

Tony Dorsett sits 10th all time in rushing yards with 12,739, so McCoy will need at least two more productive seasons if he's to move into the career top 10.

Ronald Jones led the Buccaneers last season with 724 rushing yards. Head coach Bruce Arians is known for running a pass-heavy offense, so it remains to be seen how much he'll use the running back duo of Jones and McCoy.

But adding a Super Bowl champion and a possible Hall of Famer on a one-year deal is a worthwhile investment for a Tampa Bay team that has all the makings to contend in 2020.
