Marvel Interested In Reintroducing Punisher & Daredevil To The MCU
The MCU continues to grow, and that might even include the return of certain characters from parts of its past that didn't really work out.
As Disney continues to expand the MCU, its next phase will include Disney+ TV shows. The first of those shows, which is now subject to a delay thanks to the pandemic, is The Falcon And The Winter Soldier. That will be followed by WandaVision, then Loki, and there are a fair few others in the works beyond that initial three.
The thing is, there have sort of already been MCU TV shows. Daredevil, Punisher, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage were all supposed to be a part of the wider universe. However, none of the characters from the shows appeared in the movies and vice versa. There were hints revealing they shared the same universe, but that was it.
Turns out the hints and mentions were vague enough that the minds behind the MCU are happy to pretend none of it ever happened. So much so that there are reports the characters will return to the MCU, and even be played by the same characters. According to Bounding Into Comics' Mikey Sutton, Marvel is keen on bringing back a number of characters and actors from its Netflix shows.
The names brought up are Charlie Cox, who played Daredevil, Jon Bernthal who portrayed Punisher, and Jessica Jones actress Krysten Ritter. These are rumors for now, of course, and vague ones at that. There are suggestions Cox could be introduced in Spider-Man 3 as Spidey's lawyer, but also that there could be an R-Rated Punisher movie or TV show featuring all three characters.
There's even talk of Samuel L. Jackson making an appearance as Nick Fury in the show/movie. However, if it is going to be R-Rated, there will be little chance of it making it on to Disney+. Disney and Marvel might be willing to sell the show to FX or Hulu, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility. With so much already on the docket for the MCU, even if this project is in the works, it is likely a long way off.
