Patrick Mahomes Is Aiming To Match Tom Brady's Six Super Bowl Rings

The odds of any NFL quarterback matching Tom Brady's six Super Bowl rings are astronomical.

But if there's one NFL player who can make a serious push, it's Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes, who led his team to a Super Bowl LIV title over the San Francisco 49ers in February.

Mahomes won his first Super Bowl at 24, the same age Brady was when he captured his first ring with the New England Patriots. The latter proceeded to win two more rings in his age 26 and 27 seasons.

So if Mahomes can win two rings by his age-30 season (2025), he'll be in a decent position to match Brady's six. But can the 2018 league MVP really do it?

In an interview with ESPN's Nicole Briscoe (h/t Paul Kasabian of Bleacher Report), Mahomes explained that he's looking to catch Brady's six rings while acknowledging how difficult the task will be.

"I don't know if there's a number," Mahomes said. "I mean obviously you try to chase greatness, and (Brady's) got six, so I'm going to try to do whatever I can to at least get to that number.

"I understand how hard that is, really, it's a one of a kind thing for Tom to be able to get to nine Super Bowls and win six of them, so I'm just going to go about the process every single day of trying to make myself better and do whatever I can to make the Kansa City Chiefs better."

Although Brady won his third Super Bowl at the age of 27, he and the Patriots wouldn't win another for 10 years. The three-time league MVP led New England to championships in his age 37, 39 and 41 seasons. So longevity is going to be the key for Mahomes here.

Again, if Mahomes is going to get close to Brady, he'll realistically have to have at least three rings by the age of 30. That's far from a guarantee in today's NFL, however.

When Aaron Rodgers led the Green Bay Packers to a Super Bowl XLV championship in his age 27 season (in 2010), it was supposed to be the first of multiple title runs. The Packers haven't been back to the big game since.

For Mahomes, it's going to come down to many things: Health, longevity, luck (every team needs it in today's parity-filled league) and the Chiefs' abilities to continuously build a winner around him. If he can play at a high level for another 15 or so years, and that's obviously a big if, Mahomes just might catch Brady's six rings.
