Stranger Things 4 Production Was Ahead Of Schedule, Then The Pandemic Hit

Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard has revealed production for season four was ahead of schedule before it was halted by the pandemic.

The COVID-19 outbreak has had quite an impact on the TV and movie world. Production on pretty much any project came to a halt back in March and for the most part, none of those projects have been able to pick up where they left off. A few studios are starting to return to set, but some are being scrutinized for doing so.

That will mean movies we are eagerly anticipating and new seasons of our favorite TV shows will likely be released later than advertised. Season two of The Witcher will not resume production until midway through August, and Disney+ confirmed last week that the release of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has been delayed since work on the series is not quite finished.

Turns out Stranger Things 4 will also arrive later than planned. Finn Wolfhard confirmed as much when talking to The Guardian recently. Even worse, Wolfhard divulged that prior to the pandemic, production on the fourth season of the show was actually ahead of schedule. "We were ahead of schedule, which has never happened before because there’s never a realistic approach to scheduling," Wolfhard revealed.

As was the case with everyone and everything, filming of Stranger Things 4 came to an abrupt end and everyone was sent home. What makes this news even worse is it appeared as if Stranger Things fans were going to have a short wait between seasons this time around. Netflix dropped a teaser for season four shortly after the end of season three, teasing and then revealing (spoiler alert) that Detective Hopper is still alive.

Netflix planned on releasing Stranger Things 4 at the start of 2021. The chances of that happening are now almost non-existent. As far as we know, filming has not yet resumed. On the bright side, work on the show that doesn't require travel or gathering with others has continued as is complete. All of the scripts for season four, for example, have been finished during lockdown.
