The Internet Reacts To Rumors That James Corden Might Replace Ellen DeGeneres
Rumors are circulating that James Corden will replace Ellen DeGeneres as the host of Ellen.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show has been marred in controversy recently. Former employees who have worked on the show have come forward and accused co-workers of sexual harassment and racism. Most of the allegations are aimed at producers working on the show abusing their power in order to get what they want. Needless to say, the future of the show is in jeopardy.
There's a very real chance that DeGeneres is replaced so that the show can start afresh. Although it would effectively be the same show and occupy the same timeslot, unless her replacement is also named Ellen, the show would have to undergo a name change. Even though DeGeneres's removal hasn't been confirmed, there has already been speculation as to who might replace her.
According to Page Six, the frontrunner is the host of The Late Late Show, James Corden. The source is cited as nothing more than "insiders" so even if Corden is being considered for the not-yet vacant role, it'll be a while before he occupies it. However, that hasn't stopped people on social media from reacting to the rumors, and Corden might want to steer clear of Twitter for the next few days.
A lot of points have been made on Twitter in regard to the possibility of Corden taking over from DeGeneres. One that has been highlighted a number of times is that a straight, white male taking the place of a gay woman would be a pretty big step back. The aforementioned point of the show's name has also been brought up, with some calling for Ellen Page to take the role as she is an openly gay woman with the same name.
This is all speculation for now, of course. Perhaps if Corden really is being considered for the role, those in charge of making the decision will backtrack on their first choice after seeing how people have reacted to the mere mention of having him take the helm. There's also the very real possibility that due to the complications of the ongoing pandemic, DeGeneres can't be replaced for now and she continues on as normal.
