In a new interview with GQ, Cavill recalled that he'd auditioned for the role of James Bond when he was 22 but was passed over for Daniel Craig. Now 37, Cavill would be willing to take over for Craig, 52, who is leaving the series after starring in five Bond films. For now, Cavill will continue to play Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's live-action adaptation of The Witcher. The second season of the series fantasy drama will premiere in 2021.

"We'll see what happens. But yes, I would love to play Bond, it would be very, very exciting,” Cavill told GQ. “If Barbara (Broccoli, the main Bond producer) and Mike (Bond co-producer Michael G. Wilson) were interested in that, I would absolutely jump at the opportunity."

Other actors that have been rumored to be taking over for Craig as 007 include Tom Hardy, James Norton, Idris Elba, Sam Heughan, Tom Hiddleston, Richard Madden and Jack Lowden. The twenty-fifth installment in the James Bond series, No Time to Die, was originally scheduled for release in April 2020 but was postponed worldwide due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film is now set to be released on November 12 in the UK and on November 20 in North America.

Meanwhile, it was just announced that Cavill has reportedly signed a new deal with DC Comics and Warner Bros. Pictures to reprise his role as Superman in the DC Extended Universe for three more films. It would certainly be interesting to see Bond and Superman played simultaneously by the same actor.
