Maisie Williams Reveals Who Was Originally Supposed To Kill The Night King
Arya killing the Night King during the final season of Game of Thrones came as a surprise to just about everyone, including the actress who plays her.
To say that Game of Thrones fans were disappointed with the final season of the show would be putting it mildly. A large chunk of viewers were unhappy with the series, claiming it was rushed and certain story arcs took unexpected turns, and not in a good way. Some were so displeased with what they saw that they started up a petition to have the whole thing rewritten.
That was never going to happen, but fair play to those who tried. As for some of the moments that annoyed fans the most, the death of the Night King did not sit well with a lot of people. The Night King's slow march towards Westeros lasted years. While the battle once he and his army of White Walkers arrived was great, it ended rather abruptly, and not at the hands of who we all expected.
The epic episode ends with Arya Stark plunging a knife into the Night King, resulting in the undead villain shattering into a thousand pieces. The thing is, that was Jon Snow's knife to plunge. In fact, Maisie Williams, who played Arya on the show, recently revealed that she assumed it would be Jon who eventually got to kill the Night King.
Williams revealed as much during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Kit Harrington, who plays Snow, was told all the way back in season three that he would be the one to kill the Night King. "He even said, 'It was going to go that way. Someone told me in Season 3 that I was going to kill the Night King.' And then, he read the script, and it was Arya the whole time," Williams told THR.
Something here doesn't add up. When asked about the Night King's death, GoT's creators said that they knew Arya would be the one to kill the chilling villain three years before the episode happened. That means they didn't clue Harrington in on the change of direction even though they knew about it. In their defense, something as big as that should be told to as few people as possible to prevent leaks from getting out.
