Samuel L. Jackson Signs On To New Disney+ Nick Fury Series
According to Variety, Samuel L. Jackson, 71, has signed on to star as Nick Fury in a new Marvel series coming to Disney+. The new show is being written and executive produced by Kyle Bradstreet, who executive produced the Rami Malek series Mr. Robot.
Jackson has played Fury in a number of films, including Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home. His first appearance as the character was in a post-credits scene in Iron Man in 2008. Jackson also voiced Fury in several video games, including Iron Man 2, Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes and Disney Infinity 3.0.
Fury, who was originally created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee in 1963, first appeared in Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos, a World War II combat series that portrayed the character as the leader of an elite US Army unit. When the character resurfaced in 2002 in The Ultimates series, he was purposely redesigned by artist Bryan Hitch to look like Samuel L. Jackson, who ended up playing the character on film.
In July, Variety also reported that Jackson and Ryan Reynolds will team up for a new animated series called Futha Mucka, which will launch on Quibi. A leaked synopsis reads, "Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds love each other. More accurately, Ryan loves Sam. When a minor mishap causes Sam to become Ryan's primary caregiver, things get weird. Ryan is delighted to spend all of his time with Sam. Sam couldn't be reached for comment."
Jackson and Reynolds are also set to star in a sequel to 2017 action-comedy The Hitman's Bodyguard titled The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, which was initially set for release on August 28. The film has now been delayed until next summer. The sequel takes place four years after the events of the original film. Bodyguard Michael Bryce, played by Reynolds, embarks on a new adventure with assassin Darius Kincaid, played by Jackson, to save Sonia, Darius's wife. Morgan Freeman will also join the cast.
