Armie Hammer Denies Sending Disturbing Instagram Messages
On Wednesday, Armie Hammer responded to the ongoing social media accusations that he had sent inappropriate private messages to Instagram users. The Call Me By Your Name star also revealed that he was dropping out of the upcoming film Shotgun Wedding, co-starring Jennifer Lopez.
"I'm not responding to these bulls--t claims, but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot, in good conscience now, leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic," Armie told E! News in a statement. "Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I'm grateful to them for that."
Although Lopez has not publicly commented on Hammer’s decision, a production spokesperson for Shotgun Wedding added in a separate statement, "Given the imminent start date of Shotgun Wedding, Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision."
Last weekend, the 34-year-old actor was accused of sending disturbing messages with references to cannibalism and bondage to several unidentified people. "I need to drink your blood. Why the distance," one message allegedly read. "You're my angel! You're made to save me," another said.
One Instagram user, @houseofeffie, who claims they received several private messages from Hammer, posted screenshots of numerous messages attributed to the actor. On their Instagram page there are only six images and videos of a scantily clad woman, though oddly there is a two-year gap between their first two images and the third, which dates back to October 2020.
After posting the screenshots, the user wrote on Sunday, "Ok ok, I admit it. It's all fake. But it was funny wasn't it?" The following day, however, they backtracked and claimed their original posts were real, writing, "Crazy fans went so far as to fake a DM by me."
Meanwhile, Jessica Ciencin Henriquez, a writer and the ex-wife of actor Josh Lucas, said she believed the alleged DMs from @houseofeffie "are real." Henriquez was spotted last September having lunch with Hammer in West Hollywood. In a tweet, she wote, "I'm seeing a lot of posts going around about how I am a man-hater and I would just like to clarify: Yes. I love women, I respect women... I stand by women, and I hate men who don't."
Six months ago, Hammer announced on Instagram that he and Elizabeth Chambers were separating after 10 years of marriage. The couple share two children, Harper Grace, 6, and, Ford Douglas Armand, 3. In a joint statement, they wrote:
"Thirteen years as best friends, soulmates, partners and then parents. It has been an incredible journey, but together, we've decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage. As we enter into this next chapter, our children and relationship as co-parents and dear friends will remain our priority."
