"Gotham Knights" Writer Says WB Games Montréal Is "Making Something Really Special"
The highly-anticipated Gotham Knights video game is scheduled to be released at some point in 2021.
The game, which is being developed by WB Games Montréal, was revealed at the DC FanDome event on Aug. 22. Gotham Knights marks a new universe, with no relation to the Batman: Arkham series.
Without giving away any major details, Mitch Dyer, a writer for Gotham Knights, took to Twitter and stated that WB Games Montréal is "making something really special."
Gotham Knights will center around four of Batman's most trusted sidekicks: Batgirl, Red Hood, Nightwing and Robin. As seen in the trailer, the four of them will be challenged by the Court of Owls.
The trailer showed the four heroes watching a taped message from Bruce Wayne, seemingly after his death. It is revealed that Jim Gordon is also dead, leaving Gotham City without protectors from crime.
At the end of the video message, Bruce/Batman wishes the heroes good luck before bidding goodbye.
Many assumed that the new Batman game from WB Games Montréal would pick up from the Arkham series. Batman: Arkham Knight - developed by Rocksteady Studios - was released six years ago, and the game ended on a cliffhanger.
Rocksteady Studios is developing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which is slated for a 2022 release. That game is related to the Batman: Arkham universe, although it's unknown if Batman's character will appear in the game.
WB Games Montréal developed Batman: Arkham Origins (2013), which served as a prequel to the first two games in the series. The other three Arkham installments were developed by Rocksteady Studios: Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009), Batman: Arkham City (2011) and Batman: Arkham Knight (2015).
And so, the questions regarding Batman's true fate in both the Arkham Series and Gotham Knights remain unanswered. Chances are, we won't learn of his fate in either game until they're both released.
