This Jewelry Maker Gives 100% Of Her Million-Dollar Profit To The Community

Harvard graduate, philanthropist, and jewelry designer, Joan Hornig, is giving 100% of her jewelry sale profits to charities around the world. From a young age, Joan had a dream of making big changes in the world by advocating for those in need, promoting education, and focusing on social activism. She recently spoke with Kate Matthams at Forbes and said, "I made a deal with myself when I walked down the aisle, that by the time I was 50, I would be giving 100% of what I earned back to good causes. I have never forgotten that commitment and Generation Z is now reaching the same age. They are all about learning and being inspired; it's a generation to look to.". Founder of the Joan Hornig Jewelry - Philanthropy Is Beautiful company, she has recently started a new  venture, Pavé the Way Jewelry, which is also committed to donating all proceeds to charities of the buyers choice.

Joan Hornig has a long history of philanthropic pursuits. She worked as a fundraiser for both Harvard University and the Columbia Business School, and then went on to have a successful 2-decade long career on Wall Street. With her business savvy skills, her love for fashion, and her devotion to charity, she launched Joan Hornig Jewelry- Philanthropy Is Beautiful in 2003.  Proceeds of jewelry sales are donated to a charity of the buyer's choice, and to date, over 1000 worldwide charities have benefited from this incredible mission. Recently, Joan's donations to non-profit organizations topped $1 million.

Pavé the Way Jewelry is an equitable, sustainable, and charity-driven line of fashionable jewelry that Joan created to continue her philanthropic mission. Since its launch in 2018, many young ambassadors have joined the worthy cause, and the hashtag, #IPAVETHEWAY has gone viral on social media. For young celebrities, joining forces with Joan has provided them a great way to promote awareness and raise money for charitable organizations. Actress Meg Donnelly, Emmy-Nominated choreographer Chloe Arnold, and actress Shahadi Wright Joseph are just some of the faces representing the brand.

With over 1000 charitable organizations to choose from when making a purchase, buyers can feel the impact that their special piece of jewelry has on the world. Selecting a cause that is close to their hearts can easily be facilitated. Many consumers are buying pieces of jewelry to commemorate the life of someone who has passed away, and donating to a charity that might benefit cancer or heart disease research, for example.

While Joan's original jewelry line has quite steep price points, the Pavé the Way Jewelry has something for everyone. Notable collections are 'No Planet B' and 'Food For Thought'.

Joan's incredible mission has garnered her the support and praise from many worldwide organizations, politicians, and celebrities. She has received awards and honors from The National Jewelry Institute in New York and Paris,  Fashion Institute of Technology,  and the United Cerebral Palsy of New York City. In 2016, she won the Women's Entrepreneurship Day Pioneer Award at the United Nations. Her designs are proudly worn by celebrities, including Kerry Washington, and First Ladies Laura Bush, and Michelle Obama. Hilary Rodham Clinton is also a supporter and has been seen wearing various items from the collections.

Philanthropic pursuits have perhaps never been more important than now. Our generation is facing grim realities that the world is in a state of permanent inequality, and the only way forward is to raise awareness, donate to charitable organizations, and focus one educating the generations to come. With more and more start-up companies focusing on giving back, it's become trendy to raise awareness, while promoting great fashion. If designers have the means to give some (or all!) of their proceeds to charitable organizations, it is definitely a commendable act.

With more and more young people looking to fashion designers, actors, musicians, and other notable celebrities for guidance, these philanthropic acts are not in vain. For the younger generations, it's so important that they understand the value of taking care of our planet, our population, and our political and social structures, to ensure that we are moving towards a more equal and just place for everyone to live.

Joan's mission is a wonderful one, and definitely serves as inspiration for future fashion and jewelry designers around the world.
