Game of Thrones Author George R.R. Martin Signs Massive HBO Deal

The popular fantasy series, Game of Thrones - undoubtedly one of HBO's most profitable programs - is getting a hugely anticipated second wind!  Author of the show's source material Fire and Blood, George RR Martin delights fans with a massive "eight figure" HBO deal to create more dazzling, dragon filled content!

After the show's climatic finale brought in 19.3 million viewers in 2019, it was only inevitable that the network would enlist Martin to expand the franchise. This hefty deal gives the opportunity for Martin to usher in brand new shows to the small screen - at least five Game of Thrones spin offs and prequels, along with other miscellaneous non-GOH projects.

As ideas float around, one sole project has already been green lit for production by the networks owner, Warner Brother. Based on Martin's 2017 novel, Fire and Blood, House of the Dragon is a prequel which dives into the action of House Targaryen 300 years prior to the original series' events.  With a star studded cast of Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke,  and Emma D'Arcy, production is expected to commence this April in England. The show is expected to blow fans away sometime in 2022.

Several projects are in the currently midst of development with working titles such as 9 Voyages, 10,000 Ships, and Dunk and Eggs. While 10,000 Ships depicts the story of "warrior queen Nymeria, a revered ancestor of House Martell who founded of the kingdom of Dorne," as according to The Hollywood Reporter , 9 Voyages tells the tale of Lord Corlys Velaryon - Lord of the Tides and head of House Velaryon - through Mentalist and Gotham creator, Bruno Heller's vision. Dunk and Eggs is yet another prequel based off some of Martin's best selling novels - The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, The Mystery Knight. The project is set 90 years prior to Fire and Blood follow knight, Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire/soon-to-be King Aegon V Targaryen.

While this is all stellar news for Game of Thrones fans across the world, readers of Martin find this deal bitter sweet. With massive influx of content, avid readers will have to wait with baited breath as there's little time is left for the authors ongoing novel projects.

"I still have hundreds of more pages to write to bring the novel to a satisfactory conclusion," Martin writes on his website in regards to his latest endeavor Winds of the Winter, "I will make no predictions on when I will finish. Every time I do, assholes on the internet take that as a “promise,” and then wait eagerly to crucify me when I miss the deadline."
