Jeff Bezos "Happy & Excited" For Ex-Wife MacKenzie Scott's New Marriage
MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has remarried. Scott was previously married to Bezos for 25 years before their divorce was finalized in 2019. The CEO has reportedly gushed about his ex-wife's remarriage, stating he is "happy and excited" for her.
The world's 22nd richest person, MacKenzie Scott, has found love again. The ex-wife of Amazon founder and billionaire Jeff Bezos's has married a Seattle science teacher. Scott and Bezos were married for 25 years before splitting; they share four children together. In a statement reported by The Guardian, the Amazon founder gushed over Scott's new groom.
“Dan is such a great guy, and I am happy and excited for the both of them," he shared.
MacKenzie Scott has a staggering fortune of $53.5 billion, which she accumulated since her divorce from Bezos. Since Scott has a fair share in Amazon since the split, her bank account is only getting fatter. In the divorce settlement, the 50-year-old collected an impressive $38 billion.
Scott is known to be a huge philanthropist and into giving back. In 2019, the mom of four signed the Giving Pledge, which encourages the world’s richest people to commit to giving away at least half their fortunes during their lifetime. It has been reported that she will work hard at giving her money away "until the safe is empty." The Giving Pledge was founded by investors Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates.
Last year, it was reported that Scott gave away almost $60 billion which is thought to be the largest sum ever given away in a single year. The billion went to hundreds of small low-profile charities, including food banks, homelessness groups, and racial equality campaigns working to address issues raised by the Black Lives Matter movement. Scott's new groom, Dan Jewett, will help her in selecting good causes to continue to donate to.
“In a stroke of happy coincidence, I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know, and joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others," Jewett stated.
In a great effort to help businesses and charities affected by the pandemic, Scott has reached out to her team of advisors in hopes to accelerate her 2020 giving. The author was ranked 2nd among the 50 Americans who gave the most to charity last year, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy’s annual rankings, as reported by NBC News.
Scott met Dan Jewett reportedly at a private school in Seattle where Scott's children attend. Jewett is a chemistry teacher at Lakeside School, where he has been a teacher there for years, according to NBC News. It has not been reported that he has any children of his own.
