Luxury Yacht Chef Helping Others Bounce Back After COVID

The global pandemic has affected many industries and now one luxury chef has a plan to help others get back on their feet. An innovative new project from 21Blox is starting up and helping culinary masters equal out after a COVID year.

Applications opened this week for chefs to register and express interest in joining the cause. With meals divided into several blocks including seven breakfasts, lunches, and dinners each week, chefs are being offered the chance to commandeer a set of blocks for themselves, sharing a menu, and introducing their ideas to a whole new crowd of diners.

Tracy Kohl is the yacht chef behind this great idea and ironically had planned her own retirement later this year. Now, she is using a coronavirus downturn to help give a hand to new talents waiting to be discovered and established ones hoping to return to form.

Tracy sees a long process ahead of chefs looking to rebuild after this worldwide slowdown and hopes that 21Blox can give them the visibility that they need to resume successful careers. She wants these opportunities to help build more than just the careers of the chefs applying, but also the industry as a whole.

“The art of being a chef seems to be slowly eroding away by an uncertain economy, disappearing employment opportunities, and developments in AI. Restaurants could soon suffer the same fate as high street retail,” Kohl told Food Service Equipment Journal. “We aren’t ready to see independents become instinct. They should be able to expand organically like the big competitors are able to do financially. We want to be able to help talented chefs make their dreams of owning an independent restaurant a reality.”

The official application on the website for 21Blox answers three key questions. For "Why", they explain that the pandemic has changed our dining habits with the closure of restaurants and emergence of subscription based delivery models. Employment has suddenly found itself limited for those in the field, with technology changing how consumers are brought the food they consume.

The "What" answers that this opportunity gives chefs a platform to launch their brand along with a venue to showcase their talents. They offer marketing as well as promotional support with a business model that encourages entrepreneurship and a financial model that they say would mirror applicant's personal efforts.

The final question is "Why" and is perhaps most important of all. It is here that the site explains they are searching for determined, ambitious, and talented chefs with a passion for food and life. They ask for driven people with strong ethics, available at least one day a week and with an eye on one day owning their own brand.

If this is you, this is your opportunity. If it's not, you may have just found a delicious place to eat now that the pandemic is winding down.
