New Gerber Baby Chosen, Family Receives $25K Prize

Zane Kahin is officially the new Gerber baby. The announcement came on the morning edition of TODAY, as the four month old and his doting parents, Michael and Erin, learned the exciting news live on the air.

The victory might seem like a miracle to most moms and dads, but the Kahins are no strangers to miracles. Zane's birth itself feels like one as the couple were fearful they would be unable to conceive following Erin's treatment for breast cancer at 27 years old.

She underwent a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and rounds of radiation following her diagnosis. As anyone in her position would be, the eventual mom was worried that it could affect her possibilities of carrying a child.

"Zane is our little comedian – he loves to crack himself up and even wakes up laughing," she said in an official release on PR Newswire. "On February 3, 2021, our shining light Zane came into our lives – beating all odds. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 27 years old and a newly single woman, my doctors were unsure how the impact of chemotherapy, radiation and a double mastectomy would impact my ability to have children. After getting married to my husband over a year ago, we surprisingly conceived naturally and had a near perfect pregnancy. Our family continues to enjoy every moment and look at life with appreciation and a sense of humor."

The parents beat out 90,000 others in the quest to see their little one named the top Gerber face. They claim that they started the process out as a joke. But the end result was anything but something to laugh about.

Upon the victory, Zane brought his family more than fame and prestige. They collected a $25,000 cash prize, free Gerber products for up to a year, and a $1,000 wardrobe from Gerber Childrenswear.

The original Gerber baby goes back to 1928 when Ann Turner Cook, became the first face of baby products. The idea came about when a friend to her family, Dorothy Hope Smith, submitted a charcoal sketch of the infant Ann to Gerber.

On top of the bevy of prizes, Zane will be the subject of an exclusive Gerber bodysuit and t-shirt which will be available for limited-time through Gerber Childrenswear. In addition, each purchase of the Zane gear will be met by a product donation to Deliverying Good, through the Gerber corporation. Not only is Zane a miracle, but he will be instrumental in delivering miracles to more babies around the world.
