The $14 Million Baby Photos: When Angelina & Brad Beat The System

Being a celebrity has its ups and downs, and most would agree that the constant presence of the paparazzi is among the least favorite aspects of fame. The flashing cameras and eager paparazzo are always lurking in the shadows to capture the most candid photographs of celebrities, and are just as often making their presence felt in a bold and brazen way, with cameras right in the faces of stars in an obtrusive fashion. While most celebrities complain about the invasion of the cameras on their personal lives, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt made history by turning the tables on the press, and auctioning off the images of their newborn twins. The New York Daily News reports that in a bold move, they opened the conversation to magazines that were interested in vying for the very first photoshoot of their newborn twins, and instantly made themselves $14 million richer.

The endless rush of cameras and paparazzi can be incredibly troubling for celebrities that are pregnant, or having children, as their instincts are to protect their children from the never-ending exploitation of the flashing cameras. Certain aspects of life are sacred and the cameras of strangers are not always welcome.  Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had spent enough time in the center of fame to understand how things worked, and they were well aware of the fact that the birth of their twins would create a media frenzy.

While publications aligned themselves to capture the perfect photograph of the babies, Angelina and Brad completely turned the tables on the paparazzi. They flipped the script by generating a bidding war for the rights to the very first photo shoot of their twin babies.

By doing so, they completely beat the system, and became the masters of their own domain. They were now in charge of who would capture the footage of their newborn twins, rather than being exploited by every person with a camera that was looking to break a story.

The moment the stunning Angelina Jolie began dating Brad Pitt, photographers scrambled to capture a photo of them together. This was greatly enhanced by the bidding war that ensued when they opened up the bidding war for prominent magazine covers to land the opportunity of a lifetime - to take photos of their newborn twins.

People and Hello! Magazine outbid every other publication with a whopping $14 million payout for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to snap the first images of Brad and Angelina's twins.

In an absolutely unprecedented move, the joint efforts of the magazine would be welcomed into the very private lives of Brad and Angelina, as the very first images of their twins were captured in a professional photoshoot, for the world to see.

Opting to gain control in this manner, rather than being harassed for the photos, the tables were turned, and the celebrity couple had outsmarted the press by charging this outstanding amount of money for exclusive photography rights.

To put things in perspective, Jennifer Lopez was awarded just $6 million for the same type of photoshoot when her twins were born.

Brad and Angelina's bidding war quickly became the biggest exclusive of the year, and a jaw-dropping spread spanning over 17 pages of their magazine, was dedicated to this shoot. Hello! Magazine was given international rights to the images, while People was given U.S. rights.

Known around the world for her philanthropic and humanitarian efforts, Angelina Jolie decided to disperse the money generated from this exclusive photoshoot to to those in need. CNN indicated that; "Jonathan Klein, co-founder and CEO of Getty Images, which organized the photo shoot, said that all the proceeds would go toward the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which earlier this year donated $1 million to help children in Iraq. "

The stunning photos of twins Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon were responsible for funding many projects that lent aid to children in need, across the globe. The couple created a foundation which took over the distribution of the funds.

CNN went on to say that "the images show the couple, newborns Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline and the rest of the Jolie-Pitt family -- Maddox, 7, Pax, 4, Zahara, 3, and Shiloh, 2, "and served as a family photo shoot and not just one that was centralized around the newborns. Of course, the newborns were the biggest draw, but their high profile mom and dad were an integral part of the images. Getting the entire family in on the photos added to the value of the photoshoot even more.

The twins were born by Cesarian section at the Lenval hospital in the French Riviera resort of Nice on July 12.

Since then, Brad and Angelina have journeyed through a very public, incredibly messy divorce, in which the children remained embattled with for a number of years. This publication remains the highest payout for a newborn photo shoot that Hollywood has ever seen.
