Usher Debuts Las Vegas Residency With Sold-Out Show

Usher performed a concert-to-remember when he premiered his new Las Vegas residency last Friday to a sold-out venue.

According to Rolling Stone, it was first reported early last September that the singer had accepted a coveted spot at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Tickets officially went on sale on September 10th. The Grammy-winning musician held the first show in his residency on July 16th, and according to critics and attendees, it was a huge hit. The sold-out performance lasted 90 minutes and featured 4,300 spectators.

PEOPLE Magazine notes that while the entertainer didn’t say much to the crowd, he let his songs do the talking. Usher performed a variety of his most popular hits, including throwbacks like “Yeah” and “Confessions.”

Of course, Usher also wowed the attendees with his signature dance moves (and pelvic thrusting). He even brought out roller skates later on in the performance. At one point, stripper poles were brought out so the background dancers could show off more of their sultry moves.

Usher also made sure the crowd didn’t leave empty handed – Usher bucks, the singer's infamous fake currency, rained down from the ceiling onto the musician and the crowd.

Earlier this year, in April, Usher made headlines when he allegedly tipped a stripper with Usher bucks. The Las Vegas-based dancer, who goes by the stage name Pisces shared the Usher bucks on social media, which came in denominations of $1, $20, and $100.

Usher received an influx of criticism over the incident, leading him to clarify the fake currency was part of a promotional scheme to advertise his residency.

“The idea behind Usher Bucks was really as a way of promoting the residency,” he explained. “And since then, there has been more conversations, thus proving road lead to Las Vegas.”

The musician didn’t hold back the compliments for his marketing team, who he said put in a ton of detail to promoting and organizing the show, Uproxx reports. Usher said fans have a lot to look forward to, and that the show will feature a mix of his old and current hits.

Similarly, a representative for the club confirmed the musician did not tip with fake money. Rather, they said Usher was very generous, and spent several thousand dollars on dancers and bottle service, Complex reports. Usher reportedly only put the Usher Bucks on the table as a gag to promote the residency, and didn’t intend for the dancers to take it as a tip. The club’s management added they would love to have him back in the future.

TMZ reports that Usher’s Las Vegas residency is sold-out until the foreseeable future. But anxious fans can try to get their hands on a ticket here.
