The young boy was riding his bike on the family’s driveway when a dog sneaks up behind him and begins attacking. Tara, the cat, jumps into action and scares the dog away, first checking on the boy and then chasing after the dog to be sure he’s gone. The video became YouTube’s first video in history to earn 20 million views in less than a week and the family earned approximately $100,00 per year for their quick-thinking feline.
5 Boo – Facebook Favorite
The little Pomeranian owned by Facebook finance executive; Irene Ahn was dubbed the “cutest dog in the world” after her initial posting in 2010. Celebrities began tweeting the image of the adorable pup and Facebook likes soared to more than five million. The pair received numerous product endorsements and began publishing books with Boo’s image, including “Boo: The Adventures of the Cutest Dog in the World” and “Boo: Little Dog in the Big City”. 4 Bart the Bear
The Alaskan brown bear was orphaned along with sister, Honey Bump and rescued by Doug and Lynne Seus, Utah-based animal trainers. The Seus’ were able to make Bart an international star in films like “The Edge”, “White Fang” and “The Great Outdoors”. Although Kodiak’s are dangerous and frightening to the average person, according to KMS Cub Reporter, Bart was considered one the tamest animal celebrities of all time, perhaps the reason he worked for so many years. Bart also served as icon for the Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University. He earned more than six million throughout his career.
3 Terry – Toto from “The Wizard of Oz”
Perhaps the most popular of dog celebrities in history, the terrier starred in 16 films throughout her career, beginning with “Bright Eyes” with Shirley Temple. The adorable dog was paid $125 per week ($2,300 a week with inflation) for her role in “The Wizard of Oz”, ironically more than several other actors on the set. Terry suffered a broken leg during the filming and after spending two weeks recuperating at Judy Garland’s home, Garland asked to adopt her, but her owner and trainer refused. Due to the popularity of the film, Terry’s owner, Carl Spitz changed her name to Toto.
2 Crystal the Capuchin Monkey
The adorable monkey has been seen in films like “Night at the Museum” and “The Hangover II”. In the short-lived television series, “Animal Practice” Crystal earned $12,000 per episode and according to Idol Net Worth holds a net worth of $16 million. Fans have fallen in love with her cute face and ability to show a range of emotion, more similar to her human counterparts than an actual monkey. Today, Crystal is 26 years old and continuing to act in a variety of films and hasn’t shown signs of slowing down.
1 Pal – the original Lassie
The Rough Collie performed in an impressive 40 television shows and films, rising to fame as her role of hero and friend in “Lassie”. Earning an average of $4,000 per week the young actress had a net worth of approximately $13 million but donated a large sum to animal rescue organizations and charities. Pal was trained by famous actor and dog trainer Rudd Weatherwax. Pal’s son, Lassie Jr. eventually took over for Pal’s roles, but the famous Collie continued to join the crew in the studio while his son worked and according to Listverse, served as an occasional backup. Pal passed away in 1958.
