Tony Hawk Creates $500 For Skateboards Designed With His Blood Mixed Into Paint
International skateboarding sensation, Tony Hawk is making the headlines for something very different than usual. This time, it's not tricks, stunts, or impeccable skills on the board that are putting him in the spotlight, its the highly controversial skateboards he is selling for a huge price tag. Much to the dismay of many fans across the globe, Tony Hawk has mixed a vile of his actual blood into the paint used to paint some select skateboards, and has hiked the cost very, very high, in an effort to sell them at a premium. Perhaps not for the weak of heart, this new sales tactic is being met with some resistance, and The Blast reports that many are trying to determine what has led Hawk to making such a bold and unexpected move.
This isn't a joke, or a prank, and Tony Hawk doesn't even seem to be doing this to garner attention. In fact, TMZ states that he feels that putting his very own blood into the paint in these limited edition skateboards is his way of 'connecting with his fans' in a deeply intimate way.
The exclusive line of skateboards sells for $500 each, and only 100 of them have been produced. Hawk leaned on a canned water company called Liquid Death, to create this very unique concept, and they've since proudly 'gushed' about this experience online, describing the process of how they extracted Hawk's blood and poured it in to the paint used to design the boards.
Of course, fans were caught off guard by this revelation, but those with a certain edge are appreciative of this very unique opportunity to own a skateboard that features the blood of such a legendary figure as Tony Hawk himself.
These one-of-a-kind skateboards feature an image of a skull and bloody axe, but just in case anyone has the wrong idea and plans on trying to cash in by duplicating them, extra measures have been taken. The blood-vile-boards that are real will come with a certificate of authenticity, and are, of course, signed by Tony Hawk.
Tony Hawk spoke about the experience by telling TMZ; "I am deeply thankful to have a connection with my fans, and I appreciate how Liquid Death connects with theirs," and reports indicate he went on to become a brand ambassador for Liquid Death.
Hawk has tied the sale of these boards with a charitable effort as well. As an advocate for the fight against plastic pollution, Hawk says a portion of the proceeds of each sale will go towards non profit organizations that lend their help to this cause, such as 5 Gyres, and Hawk's very own charity called The Skatepark Project.
The bloodboards are on sale now, for those who are interested...
