Despite buying the property less than five years ago, Skrillex has reportedly sold his Malibu estate for a cool $17.5 million.
According to TMZ, the 12,000-square foot home sits on a 1.11-acre property. Skrillex – whose real name is Sonny John Moore – originally purchased the vacant lot in 2016 for $6 million and then proceeded to build a custom mansion until its completion last year.
The home comes with six bedrooms and ten bathrooms and combines modern elements with classic ones. It has an open floor plan with a view of the Pacific Ocean. Skrillex reportedly designed the home around the stunning view to ensuring that every room has a stellar vantage point.
The mansion's other amenities include a home movie theatre, gym, sauna, stainless steel appliances, and a game room. It also comes with a variety of outdoor features, including a fireside cabana and an outdoor lounge area with a fire pit, an infinity pool, and a spa.
The location also explains the impressive price, as the estate is situated in a private, gated community in Malibu. There are only seventeen other homes in the same area.
The identity of the new buyers is unknown. According to Dirt, Skrillex sold the estate to a wealthy couple from Australia who earned their fortune in the bathroom and plumbing supplies industry. The outlet adds that Kurt Rappaport and Kevin Booker of Westside Estate Agency held the listing, while RubyHome's Tony Mariotti and Judy Lin Young represented the international buyers.
It's unclear why Skrillex chose to sell the property, given that construction was completed only last year. The DJ originally listed the property for $24 million in 2020, though he ultimately sold it at a lower price.
When Skrillex purchased the property in October 2016, the Los Angeles Times reported that the sellers originally wanted $7 million for the property or $18.9 million for a finished estate. he managed to negotiate the vacant lot down to $6 million at the time.
Skrillex is consistently referred to as one of the most successful DJs in the world. In total, he's won eight Grammy Awards, which is more than any other electric dance artist. Despite his success, Skrillex has only released one full-length album, Recess, in 2014. He has a reported net worth of $50 million, but given his recent decision to sell Malibu home, he may be looking to spend some of his fortune on a new place to rest his head.
