Laura Dern has a girl next door appearance but isn’t afraid to take on gritty and award-winning roles that has consistently pushed her talent to the extreme and according to Celebrity Net Worth, earned her a net worth of $20 million.

She made her first appearance on the big screen at the age of six in 1973 as an extra in White Lightning and then the following year alongside her mother in Martin Scorsese’s Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore but it wasn’t until 1986 that Dern began gaining widespread recognition.

Dern’s performance stands out in the Eastwood directed film and according to Vogue, “woefully underused” given her star status at the time, but Dern puts her all into every role she takes despite the screen time.

In Jake Gyllenhaal’s first leading role as a high school student inspired by the Sputnik launch and outer space, Dern’s role is that of Miss Riley, a teacher who encourages Gyllenhaal to pursue his dreams. Despite being reprimanded by her school principal; Miss Riley holds firm in her belief of inspiring and encouraging young people in the small town.

In the 2014 biographical drama starring Reese Witherspoon we follow a young woman on a thousand-mile solo hike as she works to recover from personal tragedy. According to IMDb, Dern plays Bobbi, in a supporting role.

In an emotional drama in which Sam (Sean Penn) is a mentally handicapped man fighting for custody of his seven-year-old daughter (Dakota Fanning), Dern takes a supporting role in the unique film.

Dern plays Marmee March alongside a female cast including Emma Watson and Meryl Streep. The movie based on Louisa May Alcott’s novel by the same name was a hit among movie goers and followed four young women, each creating their own path on their terms.
