Hornets Player, Lamelo Ball, Sued By A Publicist For $10 Million Over A Deal With Puma
The 20-year old point guard and shooting guard for the Charlotte Hornets, Lamelo Ball, finds himself in a huge legal battle after being sued for millions by a publicist who allegedly secured a deal for him with Puma. The publicist, whose name is reported by TMZ to be Amber Johnson, was said to have been hired by Ball in 2019 to assist him in landing business deals, and ultimately, grow his career. Things were off to a great start as Johnson was able to get the Hornet point guard on a video game streaming show. Impressed by her skill, Ball and his team reps offered her to work with them on further business endeavors.
According to a report from Clutch Points, Johnson claims that part of the terms of her working relationship with Ball was that she would be given a 10 percent cut of any business deals moving forward, which he and his camp agreed to. Also included in the agreement was a promise to reimburse Johnson for any payments she would have to make out-of-pocket payments she would incur while working to land him more business deals.
And, true to her ability, she was proving her worth by finding Lamelo those deals. She first got him a deal with the streaming service, Caffeine, an interactive gaming, sports, and entertainment social broadcasting platform. Shortly after securing that deal in 2019, she managed to lace Ball in with a $100 million contract with the renowned shoe company, Puma. Lamelo, who was drafted with the Charlotte Hornets in 2020, did indeed sign with Puma in November 2020 and is even said to have access to the company's private jet. So this is only confirmation that he did in fact sign with Puma.
Johnson is therefore accusing Ball and his team of not keeping their end of the bargain by cutting her the 10 percent that was agreed upon in the initial agreement. She is now expecting to receive $10 million from the lawsuit she filed against the basketball star for damages. In addition, she claimed to have never received the out-of-pocket money that she was promised would be repaid as part of the agreement, a sum total of $4,800.
Whether or not Johnson is speaking the truth with her claims, it's a bad look for the Hornets guard who is only two years into his contract with the team. And Michael Jordan, who bought the Hornet's basketball team back in May 2020, could definitely do without the negative publicity. We'll have to wait and see what will come of Johnson's claim and her $10 million lawsuit.
