Everything We Know About The Season 6 Of 'Peaky Blinders'

The complex relationships and criminal activities of the cast members is second only to the harrowing dangers that lurk at every turn. The series follows a notorious, ruthless gang from Birmingham, England, and is set in 1919. The British period storyline follows the interpersonal relationships between the Shelby gang members and their rivals, and the return of the 6th season has been slated as being the final one. There's a lot at stake for the Shelby family, and the season 5 finale was a cliffhanger that has left fans in the lurch for far too long.

There was originally supposed to be a 7th season to this highly addictive crime drama series, but the creator of the show, Steven Knight, has since revealed that season 6 will see the official end of this incredible show that has quickly grown to be one of global obsession.  The fast-paced, gripping series is filmed at a fast and furious pace, and is said to exist on a very tight budget. The actors are said to have put forth great effort at accelerating the pace of filming, while maintaining the integrity of the remarkable acting that has been racking up accolades since the launch of the show.

The set is perfectly curated to reflect old Birmingham and the film angles. The precise editing, along with the show's soundtrack have all seen significant praise, thanks to the cast of seasoned actors, including Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Annabelle Wallis, Joe Cole, Anya Taylor-Joy, Paul Anderson, Finn Cole, Natasha O'Keeffe, Adrian Brody, Sam Claflin, and the late Helen McCrory, to name a few.

In spite of the incredible roster of actors that this series boasts, The Peaky Blinders is filmed on the strict and limited budget of just $1.5 million per episode.

Much like numerous other productions, Peaky Blinders was faced with serious financial setbacks as a direct result of the global pandemic. Pre-production on the very highly anticipated sixth season was already underway, having begun in January of 2020. Filming was scheduled to begin in two main locations, inclusive of Manchester an Scotland, when suddenly, the world took heed and the public was ordered to lock down, and work from home as a result of looming fears of infection from Covid-19.

March 16th brought about the sad announcement that Peaky Blinders would be delaying production of the six one-hour episodes that were slated to begin. As the pandemic wore on with no end in sight, the continued strain on the already underfunded BBC series was too much to bear. Although previously deemed to develop as a 7-season series, production was pared down to just 6 seasons, sending fans into a flustered panic, as they tried to make peace with the sudden change.

Cillian Murphy plays the role of Thomas Shelby - a man that will stop at nothing to see his family rise to the top heights of success, no matter the cost. Those who get in his way are merely disposable distractions that will be subjected to his wrath, and as he embarks on his path of destructive behavior, fans wonder what is next for the lead character. After losing the love of his life, Grace, his mental health has hung in the balance, and the conclusion of season 5 left fans wondering what would become of the great Thomas Shelby. While the earnings of the cast have not been publicly declared, Cillian Murphy currently sits atop a $20 million fortune, the majority of which has been earned through this time battling his enemies and upholding the reputation of the Shelby family. He also acts as the executive producer of the series, which further adds to his already impressive net worth.

Tom Hardy fans have been mesmerized by his captivating role as Alfie Solomons. Stunned fans were thrilled to see this A-lister join the cast during season two, and he has been the biggest star to join the already impressive cast of seasoned actors. Interestingly, he's the wealthiest cast member, weighing in with a $45 million current net worth, yet he plays a secondary role on the Peaky Blinders. Alfie's relationship with Thomas Shelby is a complicated one, and Hardy fully embodies his role as a Jewish gang member with sheer precision and conviction. He returns to season six as the frenemy with many surprises up his sleeve, and a character that can't truly be trusted.

Some of the familiar faces are set to return for the final season, inclusive of Sam Claflin, playing Oswald Mosley, Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby, Finn Cole as Michael Gray, and Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne. The show has long been credited for being able to vividly develop each of their characters, and for completely engaging their audience. There's no doubt that the cast was well-paid to be secured for the final season, although their exact earnings are being safeguarded by BBC. Sam Claflin and Aiden Gillen are both worth $8 million, and are both met with challenges to overcome during season 6.

Sadly, Season 6 will air without one of its most beloved characters. Helen McCrory played the dominating female character of Aunt Polly, but between the filming of season 5 and 6, she lost her battle with terminal illness. Cillian Murphy has since stated that season 6 is a tribute in her honor.

New cast members to look out for include - James Frecheville, Rebecca Keatley, and Black Mirror star Amber Anderson, who revealed that she'll be appearing on the show's final season an an as-yet undisclosed role.

The release of Peaky Blinders; Season 6 is scheduled for release in the United Kingdom on BBC on February 27th, 2022. It will be streamed on Netflix shortly thereafter, although no date for the Netflix release has officially been revealed. The series has been successfully monetized through the release of a licensed video game, a clothing line, and merchandise, all of which are generating income for the already wildly-successful show. The release of Season 6 comes along with the welcome yet controversial news that the series will shift from the television forum to the big screen, with news of an upcoming movie leaving fans with mixed reactions. Some fans are excited, while others aren't certain the show will transition effectively.
