In August 2018, Renault announced that Daniel Ricciardo would be their driver for the 2019 and 2020 seasons with an enticing pay per annum. After a not-so-impressive run at Renault, he secured a $15 million/year contract to race for McLaren in the 2021 Formula One World Championship where he performed realty at the Bahrain Grand Prix, Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, the Portuguese Grand Prix, and the Spanish Grand Prix among others. He ended the championship with an 8th place finish and one podium win.
