Bruce Willis Sold $65 Million Worth Of Property As His Health Declined
Bruce Willis dramatically downsized his property empire, selling off luxury homes in New York and beyond as he prepared to retire from acting. The Die Hard actor offloaded a stunning $65 million worth of luxury real estate in an effort to simplify his life before his shocking announcement, and plans to focus on life with his family in California.
The 67-year-old was diagnosed with aphasia, a degenerative brain condition that affects his ability to communicate, his family announced on Wednesday. The actor has decided to draw the curtain on his career in showbiz, which spans 44 years.
While the news was only made public recently, reports suggest the actor has been aware of his condition “for some time” and has prepared by selling his luxurious estates.
“Bruce has been preparing for this moment for a long time. He knew there would be a time, as his health declined, when his earning power wouldn’t be as great as it once was,” a source close to the actor claimed. “Plus he knew that he wouldn’t eventually need multiple estates and apartments to travel between, and that he would instead need to live in a safe environment surrounded by his family.”
The source continued: “Looking at how he has sold off most of his properties in recent years, it is clear that he has been preparing to downsize and simplify his life for a number of years.”
As per Page Six, Willis and his wife Emma Hemming sold their massive 6,000-square-foot Central Park West duplex for $17.75 million in 2018. The couple also bid farewell to their sprawling Turks and Caicos mansion for a jaw-dropping $27 million in 2019.
The couple even took a loss on some of their real-estate investments. They sold their Westchester, New York estate for a mere $7.6 million in 2019. They dropped the asking price by $5.3 million after purchasing the property for $12 million in 2014. The Unbreakable star also offloaded his Sun Valley, Idaho, mountain house for $5.5 million after initially asking for $15 million.
The couple has kept their $10 million Los Angeles home, located in the posh Brentwood neighborhood near Scooter Braun's $65 million home.
Willis is one of the biggest names in Hollywood. His decades-long career in film has grossed over $5 billion at the box office, helping the actor build an impressive fortune valued at $350 million.
